Locally Quasi-Convex Compatible Topologies on a Topological Group

open access: yesAxioms, 2015
For a locally quasi-convex topological abelian group (G,τ), we study the poset \(\mathscr{C}(G,τ)\) of all locally quasi-convex topologies on (G) that are compatible with (τ) (i.e., have the same dual as (G,τ) ordered by inclusion.

A Chern-Simons theory for dipole symmetry

open access: yesSciPost Physics, 2023
We present effective field theories for dipole symmetric topological matters that can be described by the Chern-Simons theory. Unlike most studies using higher-rank gauge theory, we develop a framework with both $U(1)$ and dipole gauge fields.

Automatic Structures: Richness and Limitations [PDF]

open access: yesLogical Methods in Computer Science, 2007
We study the existence of automatic presentations for various algebraic structures. An automatic presentation of a structure is a description of the universe of the structure by a regular set of words, and the interpretation of the relations by ...

On decomposable pseudofree groups

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 1999
An Abelian group is pseudofree of rank ℓ if it belongs to the extended genus of ℤℓ, i.e., its localization at every prime p is isomorphic to ℤpℓ.

When the intrinsic algebraic entropy is not really intrinsic

open access: yesTopological Algebra and its Applications, 2015
The intrinsic algebraic entropy ent(ɸ) of an endomorphism ɸ of an Abelian group G can be computed using fully inert subgroups of ɸ-invariant sections of G, instead of the whole family of ɸ-inert subgroups.

Separability in consistent truncations

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2021
The separability of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation has a well-known connection to the existence of Killing vectors and rank-two Killing tensors. This paper combines this connection with the detailed knowledge of the compactification metrics of consistent ...

Classifying spaces for families of abelian subgroups of braid groups, RAAGs and graphs of abelian groups [PDF]

open access: yesGlasgow Math. J. 66 (2024) 290-307, 2023
Given a group $G$ and an integer $n\geq 0$ we consider the family $\mathcal{F}_n$ of all virtually abelian subgroups of $G$ of rank at most $n$. In this article we prove that for each $n\ge2$ the Bredon cohomology, with respect to the family $\mathcal{F}_n$, of a free abelian group with rank $k > n$ is nontrivial in dimension $k+n$; this answers a ...

Left-ordered inp-minimal groups [PDF]

open access: yesArchive for Mathematical Logic (58), 267-274, 2019, 2016
We prove that any left-ordered inp-minimal group is abelian, and we provide an example of a non-abelian left-ordered group of dp-rank 2.

Valuations and rank of ordered abelian groups [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the American Mathematical Society, 2004
It is shown that there exists an ordered abelian group that has no smallest positive element and that has no sequence of nonzero elements converging to zero. Some formulae for the rank of ordered abelian groups have been derived and a necessary condition for an order type to be rank of an ordered abelian group has been discussed.

Groups whose proper subgroups of infinite rank have polycyclic-by-finite conjugacy classes [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Group Theory, 2016
A group G is said to be a (PF)C-group or to have polycyclic-by-finite conjugacy classes, if G/C_{G}(x^{G}) is a polycyclic-by-finite group for all xin G. This is a generalization of the familiar property of being an FC-group.
