Exposures to pesticides and risk of cancer: Evaluation of recent epidemiological evidence in humans and paths forward

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, Volume 152, Issue 5, Page 879-912, 1 March 2023., 2023
Abstract Knowledge of the role in cancer etiology of environmental exposures as pesticides is a prerequisite for primary prevention. We review 63 epidemiological studies on exposure to pesticides and cancer risk in humans published from 2017 to 2021, with emphasis on new findings, methodological approaches, and gaps in the existing literature.

AI-based Carcinoma Detection and Classification Using Histopathological Images: A Systematic Review [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Histopathological image analysis is the gold standard to diagnose cancer. Carcinoma is a subtype of cancer that constitutes more than 80% of all cancer cases. Squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma are two major subtypes of carcinoma, diagnosed by microscopic study of biopsy slides.

Sentinel lymph node mapping in endometrial cancer: A comparison of main national and international guidelines

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gynecology &Obstetrics, Volume 160, Issue 1, Page 220-225, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Objectives To compare national and international guidelines regarding sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping in endometrial cancer. Methods A descriptive comparative study of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), the Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO), the European Society of Gynecological Oncology (ESGO), the British Gynecological ...

Highly multiplexed digital PCR assay for simultaneous quantification of variant allele frequencies and copy number alterations of KRAS and GNAS in pancreatic cancer precursors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining melting curve analysis enhances the multiplexing capability of digital PCR. Here, we developed a 14‐plex assay to simultaneously measure single nucleotide mutations and amplifications of KRAS and GNAS, which are common driver genes in pancreatic cancer precursors. This assay accurately quantified variant allele frequencies in clinical samples

A case of primary renal oncocytic tumor: Chromophobe renal cell carcinoma or oncocytoma?

open access: yesIJU Case Reports, Volume 6, Issue 1, Page 18-21, January 2023., 2023
Introduction “Other oncocytic renal tumors of the kidney” is a new category constituted by 2022 WHO classification and different in the point of morphology and immunohistochemistory from typical oncocytic/eosinophilic renal tumors including chromophobe renal cell carcinoma and oncocytoma. Case presentation The patient was an 84‐year‐old woman in whom a

Comparing self‐reported race and genetic ancestry for identifying potential differentially methylated sites in endometrial cancer: insights from African ancestry proportions using machine learning models

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Integrating ancestry, differential methylation analysis, and machine learning, we identified robust epigenetic signature genes (ESGs) and Core‐ESGs in Black and White women with endometrial cancer. Core‐ESGs (namely APOBEC1 and PLEKHG5) methylation levels were significantly associated with survival, with tumors from high African ancestry (THA) showing ...

A rare case of a clear cell carcinoma in a female urethral diverticulum

open access: yesIJU Case Reports, Volume 6, Issue 1, Page 77-80, January 2023., 2023
Introduction Urethral clear cell carcinoma is rare and often arises from a urethral diverticulum and rarely from the Müllerian duct. However, an explanation for this correlation remains unknown. Case presentation We report the case of a 46‐year‐old woman who presented with hypermenorrhea.

Development and Evaluation of a Deep Neural Network for Histologic Classification of Renal Cell Carcinoma on Biopsy and Surgical Resection Slides [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the most common renal cancer in adults. The histopathologic classification of RCC is essential for diagnosis, prognosis, and management of patients. Reorganization and classification of complex histologic patterns of RCC on biopsy and surgical resection slides under a microscope remains a heavily specialized, error-prone ...

ShcD adaptor protein drives invasion of triple negative breast cancer cells by aberrant activation of EGFR signaling

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identified adaptor protein ShcD as upregulated in triple‐negative breast cancer and found its expression to be correlated with reduced patient survival and increased invasion in cell models. Using a proteomic screen, we identified novel ShcD binding partners involved in EGFR signaling pathways.

Metastatic small‐cell carcinoma of the bladder that maintains a complete response to chemoradiation therapy

open access: yesIJU Case Reports, Volume 6, Issue 1, Page 81-84, January 2023., 2023
Introduction Small‐cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder has a poor prognosis, and no standard treatment has been established. We encountered a case of a patient with metastasis in which complete response and long‐term survival were obtained by treating the primary lesion with a combination of irinotecan, carboplatin chemotherapy, and radiation therapy.
