Superlubricity through graphene multilayers between Ni(111) surfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A single graphene layer placed between two parallel Ni(111) surfaces screens the strong attractive force and results in a significant reduction of adhesion and sliding friction.

Geometric controls on flat slab seismicity

open access: yesEarth and Planetary Science Letters, 2019
Abstract The relationship between intraslab seismicity and the dynamics of subduction is a subject of ongoing debate. Uncertainty surrounds (1) the extent to which the stress regime associated with slab earthquakes reflects the driving/resisting forces of subduction, or more localised processes such as metamorphic or thermo-elastic volume change, and

Self‐Poled Halide Perovskite Ruddlesden‐Popper Ferroelectric‐Photovoltaic Semiconductor Thin Films and Their Energy Harvesting Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐dimensional halide perovskite thin films, (BA)2(MA)n‐1PbnBr3n+1 (n = 1, 2), exhibit both semiconducting and ferroelectric properties, enabling mechanical and light energy harvesting. Using Cr/Cr₂O₃ or PCBM as barrier layers ensures reproducible ferroelectricity.

Optimizing production scheduling of steel plate hot rolling for economic load dispatch under time-of-use electricity pricing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Time-of-Use (TOU) electricity pricing provides an opportunity for industrial users to cut electricity costs. Although many methods for Economic Load Dispatch (ELD) under TOU pricing in continuous industrial processing have been proposed, there are still ...

Sono‐Piezo‐Photosynthesis of Ethylene and Acetylene from Bioethanol under Ambient Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A novel sono‐piezo‐photocatalytic strategy enables the conversion of bioethanol to ethylene (C2H4) and acetylene (C2H2) under ambient conditions, addressing the limitations of conventional methods that are high‐temperature and energy‐intensive. By using an advanced graphene oxide/sodium bismuth titanate heterostructure catalyst, this work achieved ...

Punching of Concrete Flat and Foundation Slabs

open access: yesTransactions of the VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava, Civil Engineering Series., 2014
Abstract This paper deals with punching of flat and foundation slabs. Te paper presents limiting values of maximum punching resistance of these slab structures with sudden and brittle mode of failure. In the paper are introduced graphs for design of flat and foundation slab thickness depending on load intensity, span length and reinforcement ratio.

Enhancing Low‐Temperature Performance of Sodium‐Ion Batteries via Anion‐Solvent Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
DOL is introduced into electrolytes as a co‐solvent, increasing slat solubility, ion conductivity, and the de‐solvent process, and forming an anion‐rich solvent shell due to its high interaction with anion. With the above virtues, the batteries using this electrolyte exhibit excellent cycling stability at low temperatures. Abstract Sodium‐ion batteries

Metallic slabs: Perturbative treatments based on jellium

open access: yes, 2000
We examine first-order perturbative results based on jellium for the surface energy of slabs of simple metals, using various local pseudopotentials (Ashcroft, Heine-Abarenkov and evanescent core).

Flat slabs: the influence of the slab thickness and the stud layout

open access: yes, 2004
The objective of this work was to investigate the influence of the slab thickness and the layout of shear stud reinforcement on the behaviour of interior slab-column connections. To achieve this, experiments on 12 interior slab-column connections were conducted having the slab thickness and the layout of shear reinforcement as their major variables ...
