Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Multimodal Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of AZ91 Mg Alloy Prepared by Equal Channel Angular Pressing plus Aging

open access: yesMetals, 2018
Developing cost-effective magnesium alloys with high strength and good ductility is a long-standing challenge for lightweight metals. Here we present a multimodal grain structured AZ91 Mg alloy with both high strength and good ductility, prepared through

High temperature rise dominated cracking mechanisms in ultra-ductile and tough titanium alloy

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
Specific titanium alloys combine transformation-induced plasticity and twinning-induced plasticity for improved work hardening. Here, the authors show that these alloys also have an ultra-large fracture resistance and an unexpected fracture mechanism via

Synchronous improvement in mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of Mg-Gd-Ag-Zr alloy through nanoprecipitates

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
It is still challenging to synchronously improve mechanical properties and corrosion resistance through one strategy during developing Mg alloys. Introducing high-density precipitates is an effective and popular approach to strengthen Mg alloys, while ...

Interplay between circadian and other transcription factors—Implications for cycling transcriptome reprogramming

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This perspective highlights emerging insights into how the circadian transcription factor CLOCK:BMAL1 regulates chromatin architecture, cooperates with other transcription factors, and coordinates enhancer dynamics. We propose an updated framework for how circadian transcription factors operate within dynamic and multifactorial chromatin landscapes ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.
