Study of Rare Muon Decay: with Polarized Muons [PDF]

open access: yesPhysics Procedia, 2015
AbstractWe studied the rare muon decay process . This Standard Model process is the background with respect to the signal process which is predicted by many extensions of the SM. We show that the process could be suppressed by cuts on the total energy of charged leptons in the kinematic region where the signal of new physics such as is expected to ...

Muon decay [PDF]

open access: yesZeitschrift für Physik C Particles and Fields, 1992
The decay of the muon has been studied at PSI with several precision measurements: The longitudinal polarization P_{\mathrm{L}}(E)PL(E) with the muon decay parameters \xi'ξ′, \xi''ξ″, the Time-Reversal Invariance (TRI) conserving transverse polarization P_{\mathrm{T_{1}}}(E)PT1(E) with the muon decay parameters \etaη, \eta''η″, the TRI violating ...

A boosted muon collider

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2023
Abstract A muon collider could produce the heavier Standard Model particles with a boost, for example in resonant processes such as μ−μ+→ h or μ−μ → Z. We propose machine configurations that produce the boost (asymmetric beam energies, tilted beams) and estimate how much the luminosity is reduced or perhaps enhanced.

Muon simulation codes MUSIC and MUSUN for underground physics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The paper describes two Monte Carlo codes dedicated to muon simulations: MUSIC (MUon SImulation Code) and MUSUN (MUon Simulations UNderground). MUSIC is a package for muon transport through matter. It is particularly useful for propagating muons through large thickness of rock or water, for instance from the surface down to underground/underwater ...

Formulation and Characterization of Novel Ionizable and Cationic Lipid Nanoparticles for the Delivery of Splice‐Switching Oligonucleotides

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) of unconventional composition and defined structures are investigated as small oligonucleotide carriers. A composition is identified that outperforms Onpattro in cargo delivery to HeLa cells. The structure of these LNPs resembles a micellar cubic phase not commonly associated with high‐performing LNPs.

A new scheme of negative muon beam generation with MuCF [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
A new scheme of low energy negative muon source with the muon catalyzed fusion (MuCF) is described. In the MuCF reaction process, muonic helium ions ($\mu$He$^+$) are created. By re-accelerating and stripping $\mu$He$^+$ ions, a low emittance negative muon beam is generated.

Discovery of a New Phase in Thin Flakes of KV3Sb5 under Pressure

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The discovery of an unexpected new phase is reported in thin flake of KV3Sb5 under pressure. The new phase, alongside the CDW and superconducting phases, reveals an intriguing interplay between various novel phases in the kagome system. These findings suggest that this phase is related to nematicity, showcasing the kagome system's potential for ...

Magnetic Precursor to the Structural Phase Transition in V2O3

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
V₂O₃, a model Mott insulator, undergoes a metal‐insulator transition linked to structural and magnetic transitions, though the underlying mechanism remains unclear. Through muon‐spin rotation and X‐ray diffraction on strain‐engineered thin films, a magnetic precursor to the structural transition is identified, emphasizing the key role of magnetism in ...

Scintillation Counters for the D0 Muon Upgrade [PDF]

open access: yesNucl.Instrum.Meth.A401:45-62,1997, 1997
We present the results of an upgrade to the D0 muon system. Scintillating counters have been added to the existing central D0 muon system to provide rejection for cosmic ray muons and out-of-time background, and to provide additional fast timing information for muons in an upgraded Tevatron.

Concurrent Operando Neutron Imaging and Diffraction Analysis Revealing Spatial Lithiation Phase Evolution in an Ultra‐Thick Graphite Electrode

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
The lithiation phases in an ultra‐thick graphite electrode are mapped operando as a function of electrode depth through a new method concurrently combining neutron imaging and diffraction. The results reveal the coexistence of lithiation phases during cycling as well as the solid electrolyte interface (SEI) formation and capacity loss through non ...
