Geological reassessment of syn‐rift extensional sequences in the Shine Usny Tolgod and Dzun Shakhai fossil localities, Eastern Gobi Basin, Mongolia

open access: yesSedimentology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Sedimentary infill patterns in the Eastern Gobi Basin of southern Mongolia record a complex, polyphased history. Asynchronous timing and intensities of extensional tectonism during the Early Cretaceous fragmented the Eastern Gobi Basin into a series of sub‐basins within an extensional rift (horst‐graben) setting, which likely infilled ...

Phylogenomic approach to integrative taxonomy resolves a century‐old taxonomic puzzle and the evolutionary history of the Acromyrmex octospinosus species complex

open access: yesSystematic Entomology, EarlyView.
A comprehensive, integrative study approach combining morphology, population genetics, phylogenetics and biogeography revealed that the Acromyrmex octospinosus species complex consists of two species: A. octospinosus and its social parasite A. insinuator.

Mining an Anthropocene in Japan: On the making and work of geological imaginaries

open access: yesTransactions of the Institute of British Geographers, EarlyView.
Short Abstract This article addresses how the lithic and the drift might be reworked as an Anthropocene material outside of a chronostratigraphy. Revisiting the finding of a floating fern fossil at the Hashima mine, we delve into a complex array of Geological imaginaries, and undertake our own speculative work.

Stability of Reactive Iron‐Bound Organic Carbon During Sulfidization of Iron Oxides: Insights From Methane‐Seep Sediments

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 8, 28 April 2025.
Abstract The association of organic carbon (OC) to reactive iron oxides (FeR), forming OC‐FeR complexes, represents a significant OC sink in marine sediments. However, the impact of diagenetic processes, such as sulfate reduction and iron sulfide formation, on the stability of OC‐FeR in marine sediments remains poorly understood.

Assessing the Duration of the Paleocene‐Eocene Thermal Maximum

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 7, 16 April 2025.
Abstract The Paleocene‐Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM) was a climate/carbon cycle perturbation recognized in stable carbon isotope (δ13C) records with a negative carbon isotope excursion (CIE). The PETM CIE termination has been associated with a δ13C inflection with pre‐PETM‐like values referred to as the G point.

Hydrologically sensitive carbonates: Tectonic and groundwater controls on synrift sedimentation in the Late Jurassic–Early Cretaceous of the western Cameros Basin, Northern Spain

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, Volume 11, Issue 2, Page 537-564, April 2025.
Late Jurassic extension, footwall uplift, erosion and karstification of marine Jurassic carbonates in the western Cameros Basin (Spain) resulted in the deposition of ?Upper Kimmeridgian‐Tithonian syntectonic alluvial fan deposits and a series of ?Tithonian to Berriasian distal alluvial marls, palustrine, lacustrine and finally lagoonal carbonates.

Smithian–Spathian carbonate geochemistry in the northern Thaynes Group influenced by multiple styles of diagenesis

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, Volume 11, Issue 2, Page 616-636, April 2025.
While the Smithian–Spathian boundary carbon isotopic excursion has been traditionally interpreted as capturing global carbon cycle behaviour, recent studies have suggested that at least some Early Triassic carbon isotopic excursions may incorporate influences from authigenic or early diagenetic processes.

Mixed clastic‐carbonate lake margin systems: An example from the Triassic of East Greenland

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, Volume 11, Issue 2, Page 675-697, April 2025.
This study examines a rare example of a mixed clastic‐carbonate shore zone from the Late Triassic of East Greenland. Two facies models are proposed. The interaction of sediment supply and production are shown to be key factors in governing facies development and these are in turn predominantly controlled by lake‐level dynamics and lake margin ...

Assessing the Impacts of Soil Conservation Practices on Surface Runoff and Water Quality Using an Agricultural Experimental Setup, Generalised Additive Mixed Models, and Hydrologic Modelling

open access: yesHydrological Processes, Volume 39, Issue 4, April 2025.
An agricultural experimental setup has been constructed with the aim of assessing the impact of soil conservation practices on surface runoff and water quality, allowing a comparison between soil compaction treatments and agricultural practices. Analyses using Generalised Additive Mixed Models (GAMM) highlighted significant reductions in suspended ...

Enhancing the Fertilizer Value of Recycled Phosphorus for Horticulture Crops Through Acidification and Placement

open access: yesJournal of Plant Nutrition and Soil Science, Volume 188, Issue 2, Page 181-195, April 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Placement and acidification pretreatments are strategies to enhance the phosphorus (P) fertilizer value of biowastes. However, their impact on the commercial yield of horticultural crops and the effects on the contents of undesirable elements in the edible product are not well known.
