Reassessing shelter dogs’ use of human communicative cues in the standard object-choice task

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
Unlike other animal species, domesticated pet dogs reliably use a range of human communicative cues to find a hidden reward in the object-choice task. One explanation for this finding is that dogs evolved skills for understanding human communicative behaviour during and as a result of human domestication.

Investigation of the Radiation Condition at the Industrial Site of the Shelter Object

open access: yesNuclear Power and the Environment, 2021
The territory of the industrial site of the New Safe Confinement of the Shelter object (NSC SO) was investigated after the installation of the arch structure in the design position over the destroyed Unit 4 of the Chornobyl NPP. Radiation studies of the industrial site were carried out by the specialists of the Institute for Safety Problems of Nuclear ...

Peculiarities of the Shelter Object Individual Unstable Structures Dismantling

open access: yesNuclear Power and the Environment, 2023
The design and construction of the Shelter Object was carried out in a record short time in extreme radiation hazardous conditions, which did not allow the object to be constructed in accordance with the rules and regulations for the design of not only nuclear installations or facilities for radioactive waste management, but also as ordinary industrial

IMPACT OF "SHELTER" OBJECT ON GROUNDWATER

open access: yes, 1999
The paper describes the chemical and radiochemical composition of groundwater, soil contamination with radionuclides and geological-hydrogeological structure in the area of Shelter Object (SO) and Chernobyl NPP location. The possible sources of groundwater contamination with radionuclides and other type of contaminants are considered.

Determination of the Radiation Situation in the Areas of Unstable Structures Dismantling of the Shelter Object

open access: yesNuclear Power and the Environment, 2022
As of the beginning of 2022, the first stage of transformation of the Shelter object (SO) into an ecologically safe system has been completed, i. e. the NSC-SO complex has been designed, built and put into operation. As a result of the work carried out, the risk of radiation and environmental safety of the Shelter object, as well as the NSC-SO complex ...

Extreme Weather Events and Consumer Food Responses

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study investigates consumer food responses to Hurricanes Helene and Milton, which affected a swath of the Southeastern U.S. in 2024. Using representative consumer survey data from six affected states, we analyze 10 distinct food responses classified into ex ante and ex post responses, and examine their associations with food insufficiency

Accurate and Anti‐Interference Control of Computer Vision‐Assisted Light‐Driven Liquid Crystal Elastomer Actuator

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
This article introduces a computer vision‐assisted control strategy for light‐driven liquid crystal elastomer actuators. Through negative feedback regulation, the liquid crystal elastomer actuator exhibits accurate and stable bending deformation in complex environments.

Criticality of fuel-containing materials in the “Shelter” object

open access: yesNuclear Physics and Atomic Energy
The article presents the results of the analysis of the validity of simplifications and assumptions accepted by researchers in the models of neutron-physical characteristics of fuel-containing materials (FCM) in the "Shelter" object (SO). The analysis and substantiation of the FCM nuclear safety will be one of the important issues during the SO ...

The rain feels different under the same umbrella: Experiences with poverty across LGBTQ subgroups

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Community Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Population‐based survey data have demonstrated that LGBTQ communities report varying rates of economic insecurity, yet very little research directly assesses how pathways into and experiences with poverty look different among subgroups at the intersections of sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI).
