In this thesis I study a variety of two-dimensional turbulent systems using a mixed analytical, phenomenological and numerical approach. The systems under consideration are governed by the two-dimensional Navier-Stokes (2DNS), surface quasigeostrophic

A power-saving modulation technique for time-of-flight range imaging sensors
Time-of-flight range imaging cameras measure distance and intensity simultaneously for every pixel in an image. With the continued advancement of the technology, a wide variety of new depth sensing applications are emerging; however a number of these ...

A new clinical tool for assessing numerical abilities in neurological diseases: numerical activities of daily living [PDF]
The aim of this study was to build an instrument, the numerical activities of daily living (NADL), designed to identify the specific impairments in numerical functions that may cause problems in everyday life.

ABSTRACT Introduction Patients requiring long‐term continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) generally have poor prognoses. This study evaluated whether adding continuous intravenous sodium infusion (cIVNa) is associated with improved hemodynamics and outcomes in patients undergoing long‐term CRRT for ≥ 7 days.

Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

On the C-numerical range of a matrix
Given two n × n complex matrices C and T, we prove that if the differentiable mapping q: U(n,C) → R2 defined by q(U) = tr(CU∗TU) is of rank at most 1 on a nonempty open set, then the C-numerical range W(C,T) of T is a line segment.

Deterministic numerical solutions of the Boltzmann equation using the fast spectral method [PDF]
The Boltzmann equation describes the dynamics of rarefied gas flows, but the multidimensional nature of its collision operator poses a real challenge for its numerical solution. In this paper, the fast spectral method [36], originally developed by Mouhot

Organoids in pediatric cancer research
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Numerical Range in C*-Algebras
Let A be a C*-algebra with unit 1 and let S be the state space of A, i.e., S = {ϕ ∈ A∗ : ϕ > 0, ϕ(1) = 1}. For each a ∈ A, the C*-algebra numerical range is defined by V (a) := {ϕ(a) : ϕ ∈ S}.
