High‐Speed Quantitative Nanomechanical Mapping by Photothermal Off‐Resonance Atomic Force Microscopy

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Atomic force microscopy (AFM) facilitates the measurement of nanomechanical (visco‐elastic) properties, but the throughput of such measurements is commonly limited by the mechanical resonance of the instrument. This restriction can be overcome by the photothermally actuation of the AFM cantilever.

Selective Multiple Classifiers for Weakly Supervised Semantic Segmentation

open access: yesCAAI Transactions on Intelligence Technology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Existing weakly supervised semantic segmentation (WSSS) methods based on image‐level labels always rely on class activation maps (CAMs), which measure the relationships between features and classifiers. However, CAMs only focus on the most discriminative regions of images, resulting in their poor coverage performance.

The Consequences of Soil Organic Carbon for Crop Yield, Farm Productivity and Profit

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Crop choices affect soil organic carbon (SOC) stocks, allowing farmers to manipulate the amount of carbon sequestered in the soil over time. This paper examines the private and public benefits of crop rotations that sequester additional carbon across the province of Saskatchewan, Canada using a novel field‐level dataset from the Saskatchewan ...

A pluralistic framework for measuring, interpreting and decomposing heterogeneity in meta‐analysis

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract Measuring heterogeneity, or inconsistency, among effect sizes is a crucial step for interpreting meta‐analytic evidence across diverse taxonomic groups and spatiotemporal contexts. However, ecologists and evolutionary biologists often interpret overall mean effects (mean population effects) as consistent across contexts, either explicitly or ...

Distance Measures for Unweighted Undirected Networks: A Comparison Study

open access: yesAustralian &New Zealand Journal of Statistics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Networks are mathematical structures that allow the representation of complex systems by jointly modelling the elements of the system and the relationships that exist among them. To analyse different contexts or systems, methodological tools are necessary to allow for the quantitative estimation of the differences existing between two or more ...

Reduced rank regression for mixed predictor and response variables

open access: yesBritish Journal of Mathematical and Statistical Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract In this paper, we propose the generalized mixed reduced rank regression method, GMR3 for short. GMR3 is a regression method for a mix of numeric, binary and ordinal response variables. The predictor variables can be a mix of binary, nominal, ordinal and numeric variables. For dealing with the categorical predictors we use optimal scaling.

Financial Statement Information and Equity Value: The Role of Real Options Characteristics

open access: yesFinancial Management, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper examines whether firm‐specific real options characteristics are equity value‐relevant beyond valuation estimates anchored in financial statements. Using extensive historical data for the United Kingdom, we assess and compare the forecast accuracy and explanatory power for stock prices of equity valuation models based on residual ...

Debt Ceilings With Fiscal Intransparency and Imperfect Electoral Accountability

open access: yesInternational Economic Review, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We study optimal debt ceilings in a political‐agency model with uncertainty about both policymaker type (benevolent or selfish) and economic state (good or bad). Elections generate disciplining and selection effects that differ across pooling, hybrid, and separating equilibria induced by different ceilings.

Medical Knowledge Integration Into Reinforcement Learning Algorithms for Dynamic Treatment Regimes

open access: yesInternational Statistical Review, EarlyView.
Summary The goal of precision medicine is to provide individualised treatment at each stage of chronic diseases, a concept formalised by dynamic treatment regimes (DTR). These regimes adapt treatment strategies based on decision rules learned from clinical data to enhance therapeutic effectiveness.

The Core‐Periphery Model Under Additively Separable Preferences

open access: yesJournal of Regional Science, Volume 65, Issue 2, Page 378-402, March 2025.
ABSTRACT This paper reexamines Krugman's core‐periphery model by substituting his constant elasticity of substitution (CES) utility with a general additively separable utility that comprehensively captures the pro‐competitive effect while preserving the income effect.
