ADGIP: Una herramienta docente para el modelado y resolución de árboles de decisión

open access: yesModelling in Science Education and Learning, 2013
In this paper, we present a software tool entitled ADGIP (version 2012), with free access under the Creative Commons licence, for the modelling and resolution of decision trees for the multi-stage decision making and that contemplates the evaluation of ...

Surveillance of ash trees under multiple threats: Integrating emerald ash borer and ash dieback dynamics with stakeholder behaviour

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 3, March 2026.
Tree‐health policies must balance identifying likely entry points and deployment of traps, targeted information campaigns and surveillance subsidies for land managers. Our unique, cross‐disciplinary approach can be applied to other pest/pathogen systems to inform tree‐health plans and how to balance resources.

Trees Inside and Outside of Forests in Guanacaste, Costa Rica: Comparisons Among Conservation Areas, Fencerows, and Urban Parks

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 2, March 2026.
We compared the abundance and characteristics of trees in replicated plots across a rural to urban gradient in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Trees in urban parks, fencerows, and national parks provide complementary benefits and have distinct compositions.

Trait‐based species selection for restoration: A case study from tropical landscapes dominated by bracken

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 1, January 2026.
Our results can be used by stakeholders to select the species best suited for active restoration projects in bracken‐dominated areas throughout the tropical region. Furthermore, our trait‐based approach, which considers seedling performance in disturbed areas, can serve as a guide for species selection in restoration programmes in other disturbed ...

The birds and the trees: Avian ecosystem (dis)service perspectives and farmers' willingness to plant native trees in the agricultural landscape of the Galapagos Islands

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 7, Issue 12, Page 3182-3206, December 2025.
Abstract Agricultural landscapes hold great potential for biodiversity conservation; however, this will require finding solutions that work for both people and nature. Increasingly, the conservation community is calling for more cross‐disciplinary research integrating ecological questions with social and behavioural sciences for a more complete and ...

Diversity modulates above‐ground productivity in response to disturbances: The case of Iberian forests

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 113, Issue 12, Page 3605-3621, December 2025.
We analysed whether forest productivity responses to disturbances were modulated by structural and functional diversity, as well as by functional dominance, and whether these responses vary among functional groups. Forest diversity can mitigate the negative effects of disturbances on productivity.

Comprehensive tree assessments for prioritising conservation action in Mesoamerica

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 7, Issue 6, Page 1813-1823, November 2025.
Tree species are of ecological and social importance globally. Mesoamerica has a diverse tree flora, and the region has experienced major changes in natural habitats due to human activities. In this study, for the first time, we assessed the conservation status of the region's tree species and found that 46% of trees in the region are at risk of ...
