Variation in motion events: Theory and applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This chapter analyses the role of intratypological and dialectal variation in the lexicalisation of motion events (Talmy 1991, 2000) and its application to second language acquisition.

‘Sowing and harvesting water’: Revisiting forest restoration in the Peruvian Andes through a multi‐stakeholder analysis

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 7, Issue 3, Page 631-652, March 2025.
Abstract Efforts to restore Peru's megadiverse Andean Forests are rapidly growing. While ecological determinants for restoration success are well known, knowledge on the socio‐economic and governance conditions that allow for the success of ecological restoration using native species is scarce.

Cacao grafting increases crop yield without compromising biodiversity

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 62, Issue 3, Page 579-592, March 2025.
Grafting is a successful approach for rejuvenating old, unproductive cacao trees, enhancing smallholder income opportunities and thus reducing pressure for new deforestation‐based plantations. Grafting briefly reduced arthropod abundance and diversity, but recovered in a short time.

La cobertura de árboles, la estructura del parche y el aislamiento de los parches se correlacionan con los patrones de ocurrencia del Coludito Copetón (Leptasthenura platensis) en remanentes de bosque del Espinal del centro‐este de Argentina [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The Tufted Tit-Spinetail (Leptasthenura platensis) is a common species from the southern Neotropical Region, but several ecological aspects, such as abundance patterns and habitat use, remain poorly known.

COSST: A tool to facilitate seed provenancing for climate‐smart ecosystem restoration

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 62, Issue 3, Page 677-688, March 2025.
Our tool can guide where to source seeds for species lacking range‐wide information on genetic structure, which is the case for a substantial proportion of the tropical flora, where ecosystem restoration is of paramount importance. Abstract Selecting the best seed sources is a key step in ecological restoration planning especially under climate change.

Detecting selective logging in tropical forests with optical satellite data: an experiment in Peru shows texture at 3 m gives the best results

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, Volume 11, Issue 1, Page 100-118, February 2025.
Selective logging is known to be widespread in the tropics, but is currently very poorly mapped. To improve this, we used in‐situ measurements of aboveground biomass loss (∆AGB) collected from selectively logged permanent sample plots in the southern Peruvian Amazon.

A survey of homopteran species (Auchenorrhyncha) from coffee shrubs and poró and laurel trees in shaded coffee plantations, in Turrialba, Costa Rica

open access: yesRevista de Biología Tropical, 2001
Asurvey of homopteran species (Auchenorryncha) was conducted in coffee plantations with no shade (C), and in those with shade of either poró (Erythrina poeppigiana) (CP) or poró plus laurel (Cordia alliodora) (CPL), in Turrialba, Costa Rica.
