First Evidence of Fallen Fruit Feeding by Bats Revealed by Camera Traps in a Tropical Dry Forest

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 57, Issue 5, September 2025.
Ground foraging among volant frugivores is an underappreciated aspect of behavioral flexibility. Here we report the first evidence of fruit bats feeding on fallen fruit, captured by camera traps in a Costa Rican tropical dry forest. These observations provide insight into the flexibility and mechanisms of coexistence among frugivores.

Physiological and Growth Responses of Tropical Dry Forest Tree Seedlings to Water and Nutrient Additions: Comparisons Between Nitrogen Fixers and Non‐Fixers

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 57, Issue 5, September 2025.
This study examined the physiological and growth responses of tropical dry forest tree seedlings to water and nutrient additions, comparing nitrogen (N)‐fixing and non‐fixing species. The results showed that N‐fixing species responded more strongly to nutrient addition, accumulating significantly more biomass and increasing height growth rate. Overall,

Impact of acoustic index parameters on soundscape comparisons

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 5, Page 872-885, May 2025.
Abstract Unprecedented ecosystem changes have prompted prioritisation of scalable and informative environmental monitoring. Ecoacoustics derives information from passive acoustic monitoring of soundscapes as a proxy to describe ecological processes. Ecoacoustic indices are often used to characterise specific aspects of the acoustic environment, for ...

UAV‐Based Land Surface Temperatures and Vegetation Indices Explain and Predict Spatial Patterns of Soil Water Isotopes in a Tropical Dry Forest

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 61, Issue 2, February 2025.
Graphical abstract illustrating the concept of isotopic enrichment of soil water depending on canopy status and plant type. Because of less shading provided, evaporative enrichment in areas without canopy cover is higher compared to areas with intermixed evergreen and leaf‐shedding trees and evergreen patches. E and T are Evaporation and Transpiration,

Untangling the Complexity of Climate Change Effects on Plant Reproductive Traits and Pollinators: A Systematic Global Synthesis

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 31, Issue 2, February 2025.
Climate change is shifting flowering and animal activity times across ecosystems, potentially increasing the risk of plant–pollinator mismatches. Flower production and plant reproductive success showed varied responses to climate change depending on the ecosystem, whereas nectar rewards declined and floral scents increased or changed under warming and ...
