Suppressing Metal–Molecule Charge Transfer With a Phosphorus Interlayer

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Phosphorus forms stable reconstructions with remarkable properties on various metal substrates. Here, using a spectroscopic approach, its role as an effective buffer layer on Cu(110) is demonstrated, preventing charge transfer to adsorbed Zn‐tetraphenylporphyrins (ZnTPP).

Transient modeling of extraction columns: Parameter estimation, uncertainty analysis, and operation optimization

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Despite extensive modeling efforts in extraction research, transient column models are rarely applied in industry due to concerns regarding parameter identifiability and model reliability. To address this, we analyzed uncertainty propagation from estimated parameters in a previously introduced column model and assessed identifiability via ill ...

Mulching Increases Water Use Efficiency, Production and Profitability in Forage Cactus–Maize Intercropping Systems

open access: yesIrrigation and Drainage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study evaluated the growth, forage production, soil water balance, water indices, biological efficiency and competitive capacity of forage cactus and maize in monoculture and intercropping, with or without mulch. The experiment was conducted in Serra Talhada, Pernambuco, Brazil, using the cactus clone ‘Orelha de Elefante Mexicana’ (OEM ...

Impact of Irrigation Scheduling on Corn Yield and Water Balance in Sandy Soils of Central Minnesota Using the EPIC Model.

open access: yesIrrigation and Drainage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Efficient irrigation scheduling is critical in sandy soils to achieve optimum yield and maximum net benefit with minimum environmental concerns. The Environmental Policy Integrated Climate (EPIC) model was used to study the impacts of autoirrigation of corn on crop yield and soil water balance during 2019–2021 at −300 and −450 kPa for loamy ...

Engineering Crosslinker‐Free Sericin–Gelatin Hydrogels With Tunable Rheology for 3D Printing Applications

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, EarlyView.
Gelatin derived from porcine tissue and sericin extracted from Bombyx mori cocoons are combined to form crosslinker‐free hydrogels with tunable composition, enabling extrusion‐based 3D printing and biocompatible constructs for biomedical applications. ABSTRACT Hydrogels can be processed by 3D printing to manufacture tailor made structures, broadening ...

Genetic and Ecological Management of Pacific Salmon Fisheries for the 21st Century

open access: yesFisheries Management and Ecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Based on ecological adaptation theory, tremendous effort is being spent on measures that are eliminating salmon hatcheries and fishing opportunities with the intention of protecting wild runs deemed to be of particular genetic importance to the survival of the species.

Sex differences in neuromodulatory subcortical systems and their implications for Alzheimer's disease

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 22, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Neuromodulatory subcortical systems (NSSs) are uniquely susceptible to dementia‐related pathology, leading to frequent molecular and behavioral impairments associated with altered function of these nuclei. Some of these systems display clear sex‐specific cytoarchitecture and signaling leading to distinct physiology and behavioral outputs in ...

Ligand‐Driven Optimization of Iron Oxide Nanoprobes for In Vivo MRI Enhancement at Ultra‐High Field

open access: yesSmall, Volume 22, Issue 16, 17 March 2026.
Ligand‐tailored iron oxide nanoparticles reveal how surface chemistry controls T2 relaxivity and in vivo performance in ultra‐high‐field MRI. Systematic variation of hydrophilicity and charge across five coatings modulated r2 by up to 333 mm−1 s−1, with chemical properties, rather than shell thickness, dictating magnetic dephasing and enabling reliable

From rhetoric to measurement: The economics of wetland conservation

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Agricultural Economics/Revue canadienne d'agroeconomie, Volume 74, Issue 1, Page 56-77, March 2026.
Abstract Wetland conservation continues to be a pressing issue as wetlands continue to be lost due to urban, industrial, and agricultural expansion. This paper synthesizes the current knowledge about wetland conservation economics in Canada, with a focus on prairie landscapes. We review the methods economists use to empirically measure the costs (i.e.,

Relationship between locus coeruleus and slow‐wave sleep in aging and Alzheimer's disease

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 22, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract INTRODUCTION Sleep disruption, particularly loss of slow‐wave sleep (SWS), is common in Alzheimer's disease (AD), but its neurobiological underpinnings remain unclear. We investigated whether locus coeruleus (LC) integrity relates to SWS across the AD continuum and whether sex and perivascular spaces (PVSs) modify these associations.
