CRESCIMENTO DE ÁREA FOLIAR E ÍNDICE DE ÁREA FOLIAR DE MUDAS DE Cordia americana EM DIFERENTES FORMAS DE MANEJO

open access: yesBIOFIX Scientific Journal, 2017

A relação funcional determinada

Impacts of fire on canopy structure and its resilience depend on successional stage in Amazonian secondary forests

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, Volume 11, Issue 4, Page 394-410, August 2025.
We analyzed the effects of fire on secondary forests' vertical structure in different successional stages using lidar metrics. Our results show that independently of the successional stage, secondary forests that experienced fire were more degraded than unburned secondary forest areas. Overall, our results show that forests in early successional stage (

Thermal tolerance is linked to anatomical but not morphological leaf traits in woody species of Andean tropical montane forests

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 39, Issue 6, Page 1537-1549, June 2025.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract The world is experiencing a rise in global temperatures as a result of climate change. Higher temperatures along with more frequent heat waves negatively impact physiological levels and ultimately lead to plant death.

Range‐wide intraspecific variation reflects past adaptation to climate in a gypsophile Mediterranean shrub

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 112, Issue 7, Page 1533-1549, July 2024.
Despite strong specialization to gypsum soils, past divergent selection related to climatic gradients has driven adaptive population differentiation in Lepidium subulatum. All populations showed high but similar plasticity to drought, indicating that selection did not act against plasticity in harsh environmental conditions.

Leaf traits and leaf‐to‐air temperature differences in tropical plants suggest variability in thermoregulatory capacities across elevations

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 56, Issue 4, July 2024.
Plant thermoregulation is essential for understanding the potential effects of climate change on terrestrial ecosystems. This study provides evidence indicating variation of leaf functional traits and leaf‐to‐air temperature across the elevation gradient.

Tree and mycorrhizal fungal diversity drive intraspecific and intraindividual trait variation in temperate forests: Evidence from a tree diversity experiment

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 38, Issue 5, Page 1089-1103, May 2024.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract The study of tree species coexistence is crucial to understand the assembly of forest communities. In this context, trees adjust their traits in response to the interactions with other trees and, specifically, as a result of the competition for resources.
