Thermochromic Gires‐Tournois Resonators with Tellurium for Battery Thermal Runaway Warning

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A thermochromic Gires‐Tournois (GT) resonator with a thin tellurium layer enables rapid, reversible, and untethered detection of battery surface temperature <80 °C. Exploiting tellurium's refractive index change driven by a thermally induced phase transition between solid and quasi‐liquid states, the GT resonator visualizes heat propagation, providing ...

Engineering Electrical Transport by Implantation‐Induced Defects in CrN Films Without Affecting Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates how implantation‐induced defects in CrN thin films enable controlled tuning of electrical transport from metallic to semiconductor‐like behavior while preserving thermal conductivity. Through cumulative argon implantation, defect landscapes are engineered to manipulate carrier mobility and conduction mechanisms, revealing key ...

A Duality Between Surface Charge and Work Function in Scanning Kelvin Probe Microscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Scanning Kelvin probe microscopy (SKPM) is a powerful technique for macroscopic imaging of the electrostatic potential above a surface, providing insight into sample work function and charge variations. General relationships are derived connecting the measured SKPM voltage image and the underlying work function variation or charge pattern.

4D Bioprinted Self‐Folding Scaffolds Enhance Cartilage Formation in the Engineering of Trachea

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 10, Issue 6, March 18, 2025.
A bilayer self‐folding scaffold, triggerable by humidity, is fabricated via 4D bioprinting for trachea engineering. An analytical model is derived to predict its radius of curvature, enabling its scalability. Cartilage progenitor cells seeded on the scaffold perceive scaffold final curvature and react to it, by enhancing the upregulation of pro ...

Ellipticity‐Controlled Exceptional Points and Cross‐Polarized Phase Singularities in Multi‐Layer Silicon Guided Mode Resonant Metasurfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Omni‐polarizers that pull all input polarization states to an elliptical or linear polarization can be made using highly resonant bi‐layer metasurfaces. The ellipticity of the selected polarization can be controlled by choosing the layer separation.

Broadband Measurement and Tuning of the Volatile Thermo‐Optic Properties in Chalcogenide Phase Change Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Chalcogenide phase change materials (PCMs) demonstrate a significant switchable volatile thermo‐optic response across visible and telecommunication bands. A broadband measurement is presented showing that some alloys exceed traditional reconfigurable materials in photonic integrated circuit (PIC) applications.
