Aging‐Associated Vacuolation of Multi‐Ciliated Cells in the Distal Mouse Oviduct Reflects Unique Cell Identity and Luminal Microenvironment

open access: yesAging Cell, EarlyView.
Multi‐ciliated cells in the infundibulum and ampulla (INF/AMP) epithelium are vacuolated in aging. Unique cellular susceptibility of the INF/AMP epithelial population and aging‐associated decline in ovarian artery circulation, which supports the ovary and INF/AMP, contribute to this region‐specific vacuolation phenotype, as a consequence of a mildly ...

Prenatal alcohol exposure alters brain structure and neurocognitive outcomes for 6‐ to 7‐year‐old children in a South African birth cohort

open access: yesAlcohol, Clinical and Experimental Research, EarlyView.
We investigated associations between prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE), cortical and subcortical morphology, and neurocognitive outcomes in 158 6‐ to 7‐year‐old children. PAE was associated with smaller total cortical surface area and regional cortical volume and surface area changes in the temporal lobe, adjusting for age, sex, maternal education ...

Comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic approach to male factor infertility aimed at natural fertility: A multicentric retrospective cohort study

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background In infertile couples whose male partner has alterations in semen parameters frequently, a comprehensive andrological approach is lacking and approximately 30–50% are classified as idiopathic infertility. These couples are often directly addressed to assisted reproduction techniques (ARTs).

Prenatal detection of placenta accreta spectrum using a sonographic checklist

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, EarlyView.
In a multi‐site tertiary center of prospectively obtained cases, a standardized sonographic checklist had a high sensitivity and moderate specificity for the prenatal detection of PAS in a high risk population. Across two trimesters, we found progression of features from the second to third trimester and improved performance of the checklist when ...

Supporting equitable access to learning via SMS in Kenya: Impact on engagement and learning outcomes

open access: yesBritish Journal of Educational Technology, EarlyView.
Abstract The use of SMS messaging for education has grown in recent years, with particular attention recently during the Covid‐19 pandemic. Mobile phones often have high levels of ownership in low‐income contexts compared to computers, and lower connectivity requirements, which arguably make this a more equitable medium than data‐heavy online ...

Weichselian–Holocene glacial history of the Sjuøyane archipelago, northern Svalbard

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
To reconstruct the glacial history of Sjuøyane, we describe coastal sedimentary sections in Quaternary sediments and constrain their chronology by radiocarbon and optically stimulated luminescence ages. The sedimentary sections largely consist of shallow (glacio‐)marine and/or littoral sediments deposited during high relative sea levels.

Multiphysics Simulation Methods in Computer Graphics

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract Physics simulation is a cornerstone of many computer graphics applications, ranging from video games and virtual reality to visual effects and computational design. The number of techniques for physically‐based modeling and animation has thus skyrocketed over the past few decades, facilitating the simulation of a wide variety of materials and ...

Single‐Cell Transcriptomics Uncovers Core Signature for Regulating Mitochondrial Homeostasis During Testicular Ageing

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
We observed a range of age‐related modifications in testicular morphology and spermatogenic cells during ageing, and conducted scRNA‐seq on testes, establishing a foundational comprehension of mitochondrial dysfunction as a basis for testicular ageing.

Ten relevant questions for applying biodiversity offsetting in the Pantanal wetland

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, EarlyView.
Here, we formulated 10 questions that discuss and illustrate how offsetting can be applied to maintain wetland integrity, economic fairness, and biodiversity conservation in the Pantanal and Upper Paraguay River basin (UPRB) We provided examples of offsetting implementation opportunities, analyze spatial compliance deficits, and illustrate requirements

A closer look at Doleac and Mukherjee (2022) and the effects of naloxone access laws on opioid ER admissions

open access: yesEconomic Inquiry, EarlyView.
Abstract In their 2022 study, ‘The Effects of Naloxone Access Laws on Opioid Abuse, Mortality, and Crime,’ Doleac and Mukherjee conclude that broadening access to a life‐saving drug—naloxone—does not reduce opioid‐related mortality as the drug simultaneously encourages riskier drug use. I show issues with their data, design, and estimation methods. For
