When invasions go unnoticed: Public perception of the freshwater jellyfish Craspedacusta sowerbii in Europe

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 8, Issue 6, Page 1957-1973, June 2026.
Abstract Biological invasions are a major driver of biodiversity loss, yet inconspicuous or “cryptic” species often escape detection and public awareness, limiting management responses. We investigated the freshwater jellyfish Craspedacusta sowerbii, likely native to China and now present on six continents, through a 22‐month multilingual online survey

Selective Fluorescent Probe Based on Thiomethyl‐Substituted Bis(arylidene)ketone for Hypochlorite Detection in Water Samples

open access: yesChemistrySelect, Volume 11, Issue 21, 4 June 2026.
The synthesized probe (SMAK) is the first bis(arylidene)ketone derivative for hypochlorite sensing. It was prepared in one step following two alternative routes; the traditional solution method and a greener solvent‐free method. Probe was found to have excellent selectivity over interfering anions, cations and oxidants and the mechanism of sensing and ...

Fluorinated Amphiphilic Dendrimer to Improve PET Imaging of Cancer

open access: yesSmall, Volume 22, Issue 35, 23 June 2026.
Fluorination of a self‐assembling dendrimer nanosystem reduced liver retention, accelerated renal clearance and improved biodistribution, ultimately enhancing tumor uptake and enabling more sensitive tumor detection by positron emission tomography (PET).

Physicochemical and remineralisation properties of calcium silicate and glass ionomer cements applied in simulated caries‐affected dentine

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Oral Sciences, Volume 134, Issue 3, June 2026.
Abstract Calcium silicate‐based and glass ionomer cements are often used in caries‐affected dentine. This study investigated the remineralising and physicochemical properties of two calcium silicates and a glass ionomer cement. Human molars with Class I cavities were subjected to pH cycling to simulate caries lesions.

Metabolic thermodynamics: pertinent reference state and energy potentials

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 293, Issue 11, Page 3111-3126, June 2026.
A recommendation and method to view the energy potentials of metabolites with reference to (green arrow) a biochemical precursor state (in green: water, Mg2+, phosphate, bicarbonate, ammonium, and sulfate, at pH = 7) rather than (the red arrow) the physical–chemical reference state (in grayish red) that is alien to biology, that is, O2, H2, N2 at 1 ...
