Metabolic Dysfunction‐Associated Steatotic Liver Disease and Obesity: Pathogenesis, Diagnostics, Risk Stratification, and Therapeutic Approach

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) has emerged as the most prevalent chronic liver disease worldwide, closely linked to the global rising incidence of obesity and metabolic syndrome. This review synthesizes current evidence on the pathogenesis, gut–liver axis, and multidisciplinary management of MASLD within the ...

Comprehensive DIA‐MS Proteomics of Root Basal Nodes Elucidates Mechanisms of Salt Tolerance in Rice

open access: yesPROTEOMICS, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Soil salinity severely affects rice growth, yield, and quality, posing a global food security challenge. Rice is particularly vulnerable to high salinity, which restricts growth and tolerance to other stresses. To address this, breeding efforts have been made in the past, leading to the generation of multi‐stress‐tolerant rice lines.

First genome sequence of a European Alternaria brassicae isolate and genes involved in early development of alternaria leaf spot on Brassica juncea

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
This article reports the first genome sequence of a UK Alternaria brassicae isolate. Dual RNA‐sequencing profiling of A. brassicae‐infected Brassica juncea leaves identified differentially expressed genes involved in pathogenicity and host response pathways in moderately resistant Sej‐2 (2) and moderately susceptible Pusa Jaikisan cultivars.

Oat β-glucans with different molecular weights modulate constipation through intestinal motility and gut microbiota metabolism

open access: yesJournal of Functional Foods
This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and underlying mechanisms of oat β-glucans with different molecular weights in alleviating constipation. High molecular weight β-glucans (HMG) extracted directly from oats were enzymatically hydrolyzed using 60 U/

Almond Shell‐Derived Cellulosic Microfibres: Extraction, Characterisation and Applications in Sustainable Paper‐Based Packaging

open access: yesPackaging Technology and Science, EarlyView.
Cellulosic microfibres were extracted from almond shells using organosolv, soda and kraft processes, and comprehensive physicochemical, surface, thermal and morphological characterisation demonstrated their strong potential as sustainable fillers for paper‐based packaging application. ABSTRACT This study develops pathways for the valorisation of almond

Deciphering Branched Galactomannan Structures via Multistage Ion Mobility MS and MSn Fragmentation (Multistage IMSn)

open access: yesRapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Rationale Hemicelluloses are abundant carbohydrate components in plant cell walls. They play a crucial structural role in binding cellulose microfibrils, in addition to other biological functions. Their high structural variability directly influences their biological properties, making it important to establish a structure–function ...

Cryoprotective effect of β-glucans on beef myofibrllar proteins [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015

The polysaccharide Pullulan improves the initial steps of allergen‐specific immunotherapy in dogs

open access: yesVeterinary Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Allergen‐specific immunotherapy (AIT) is the only aetiological treatment for canine atopic dermatitis (CAD). Pullulan, a polysaccharide with immunomodulatory properties, may enhance AIT outcomes when combined with allergens such as recombinant Dermatophagoides farinae 2 (Der f 2).

FUNGI-DERIVED β-GLUCANS AS A COMPONENT OF FUNCTIONAL FOOD

open access: yes, 2012
Functional food market develops dynamically all over the world although in Poland consumers knowledge in this area is insufficient. An importance of functionalfood mainly arises from contained bioactive substances.

β-Glucan synthase gene overexpression and β-glucans overproduction in Pleurotus ostreatus using promoter swapping.

open access: yes, 2013
Mushroom β-glucans are potent immunological stimulators in medicine, but their productivities are very low. In this study, we successfully improved its production by promoter engineering in Pleurotus ostreatus. The promoter for β-1,3-glucan synthase gene
