Permafrost Thaw Dynamics Drive the Regime Shifts of Iron‐Bound Organic Carbon Sequestration in the East Siberian Arctic Shelf

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 1, 16 January 2026.
Abstract In the changing Arctic, permafrost thaw is shifting from gradual to abrupt. Although iron‐bound organic carbon (OC‐FeR) critically modulates permafrost carbon‐climate feedbacks, its decadal‐scale variability and response to this regime shift remain poorly constrained.

Laser‐Written Ruby Emitters in MXenes: Transforming Residual Impurities Into Integrated Narrowband Luminescent Probes

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, Volume 14, Issue 1, 9 January 2026.
Laser writing converts residual aluminum in MXenes into bright ruby emitters with laser‐like photoluminescence. This approach provides a universal optical tool for mapping material purity. Luminescence sensitivity to temperature, pressure and chemical environment turns synthesis liabilities into assets, enabling the formation of built‐in optical probes

Electronic and Steric Tuning of Molecular Acidity toward Unified Models for Excited State Proton Transfer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 4, 19 January 2026.
Conventional excited‐state proton transfer (ESPT) theories explain the kinetics of fluorescent photoacids, but face challenges for weakly or nonfluorescent ones. This missing link is bridged by making and dissecting series of green fluorescent protein chromophore derivatives with varied photoacidities via strategic substitutions. Structure‐photoacidity

Geometric Phase Metasurface for Lens Antenna System With High Polarisation Purity and Efficiency

open access: yesIET Microwaves, Antennas &Propagation, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
This work presents a millimetre‐wave antenna–metalens system based on the Pancharatnam–Berry phase principle, operating efficiently from 82 to 95 GHz. The system achieves high directivity (up to 34.7 dB), excellent polarisation purity (AR < 2 dB) and aperture efficiency exceeding 30%. The same metalens is also characterised at 75 and 105 GHz, where the

Decrease in Effective Population Size After the Immigration of Asian Black Bears to Japan

open access: yesEcological Research, Volume 41, Issue 1, January 2026.
The Asian black bear populations in Japan experienced three distinct periods of population decline in the past. The first decline began approximately between 800,000 and 300,000 years ago, the second occurred around 150,000 to 70,000 years ago, and the third took place roughly from 50,000 to 18,000 years ago.

The Effect of Sensor Response Measurement Techniques on the Sensitivity of Organic Field‐Effect Transistors to NO2

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, Volume 11, Issue 20, December 3, 2025.
Organic field‐effect transistor gas sensors were investigated using periodic transfer curves and transient current measurements with pulsed voltages. Their sensitivity was found to depend on the measurement routine, allowing us to propose a detection mechanism.

Gels for CO2 geo‐storage and conformance control: A systemic review of behavior and performance

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, Volume 4, Issue 4, Page 612-637, December 2025.
This review provides a systemic evaluation of potential sealants used in CO2 subsurface storage practices. Critical analyses of how external factors like CO2, pH, brine salinity and hardness, rock mineralogy, pressure, temperature, and injectivity could affect the performance of different sealants are provided. Abstract Carbon capture and storage (CCS)
