Elevation, soil pH and calcium availability shape regional and local scale spatial patterns of PhoD gene abundance in tropical and subtropical forests

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Organic phosphorus mineralization is a critical process in the phosphorus cycle, governing phosphorus bioavailability for plants. The PhoD gene, which encodes the key enzyme alkaline phosphatase, serves as a valuable biomarker for this process.

open access: yesShuitu Baochi Xuebao, 2005

Nitrogen deposition does not exacerbate phosphorus limitation of rhizosphere microbes in subalpine forests

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract The stoichiometric imbalance caused by nitrogen (N) deposition typically exacerbates phosphorus (P) limitation in plants. However, it remains unclear whether this effect extends to soil microbes, particularly those in the rhizosphere.

Study on the relationship of carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus contents and microbial diversity in the surface sediments of Yundang Lagoon [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010

Effects of drying-wetting cycle caused by rainfall on soil respiration: Progress and prospect [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Soil respiration is an important part of the carbon cycle in terrestrial ecosystems. The changes of soil respiration caused by rainfall directly affect global carbon balance.

Using miniaturized laboratory equipment and DNA barcoding to improve conservation genetics training and identify illegally traded species

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Illegal wildlife trade (IWT) is one of the largest global illegal activities, and it negatively affects biodiversity and sustainable development worldwide. DNA barcoding coupled with high‐throughput sequencing (i.e., metabarcoding) is useful in identifying taxa affected by IWT and has been used routinely for decades.

The Accommodation of Nitrogen to Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) Pollution in Avicennia marina [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011

Soil carbon dynamic characteristics of coal gangue-filled reclaimed cropland and forest land under time series [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
In order to clarify the intrinsic mechanism between soil quality and soil carbon cycling after reclamation and to reveal the characteristic patterns of carbon dynamics of reclaimed soils under time series, the cultivated soils of 3, 6, 9 and 12 a ...

Comprehensive framework for assessing and optimizing existing research networks

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Conservation, monitoring, and research networks, or collections of ecological research sites unified under a common mission of data collection or a research mission, are essential infrastructure for understanding large landscapes. However, most networks developed opportunistically over decades rather than through systematic design, creating ...
