Creating conservation strategies with value‐focused thinking

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 37, Issue 5, October 2023., 2023
Abstract Biodiversity and human well‐being strategies are only as good as the set of ideas people think about. We evaluated value‐focused thinking (VFT), a framework that emphasizes creating objectives and strategies that are responsive to the objectives.

The Post‐2020 Global Biodiversity Framework: How did we get here, and where do we go next? 2020年后全球生物多样性框架:历史与展望

open access: yesIntegrative Conservation, Volume 2, Issue 1, Page 1-9, March 2023., 2023
Understanding the structure of the Post‐2020 Global Biodiversity Framework. Abstract December 2022 finally saw the historic agreement of the Kunming‐Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KM‐GBF), a landmark framework that sets to halt and reverse global biodiversity loss by remedying the multifaceted drivers behind biodiversity declines around the ...

Introducing a common taxonomy to support learning from failure in conservation

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 37, Issue 1, February 2023., 2023
Abstract Although some sectors have made significant progress in learning from failure, there is currently limited consensus on how a similar transition could best be achieved in conservation and what is required to facilitate this. One of the key enabling conditions for other sectors is a widely accepted and standardized classification system for ...

Considering science needs to deliver actionable science

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 37, Issue 1, February 2023., 2023
Abstract Conservation practitioners, natural resource managers, and environmental stewards often seek out scientific contributions to inform decision‐making. This body of science only becomes actionable when motivated by decision makers considering alternative courses of action.

Threatened species are disproportionately important interactors in a seed dispersal network in Southeast Asia 东南亚地区濒危物种在种子散布网络中扮演着关键性角色

open access: yesIntegrative Conservation, Volume 1, Issue 1, Page 25-39, December 2022., 2022
The rainforests of Southeast Asia have a high diversity of animals, many of which eat fruit and disperse the seeds of forest plants. Several large‐bodied species occur in these forests; these animals are predicted to have especially important seed dispersal roles but are also among the species most threatened by defaunation.

Data justice and biodiversity conservation

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 36, Issue 5, October 2022., 2022
Abstract Increases in data availability coupled with enhanced computational capacities are revolutionizing conservation. But in the excitement over the opportunities afforded by new data, there has been less discussion of the justice implications of data used in conservation, that is, how people and environments are represented through data, the ...

Environment regimes play an important role in structuring trait‐ and taxonomy‐based temporal beta diversity of riverine diatoms

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 110, Issue 6, Page 1442-1454, June 2022., 2022
Our study provides a new perspective into temporal beta diversity of daily riverine diatom communities. The results highlight the importance of taxonomic and functional temporal beta diversity and its decomposition, which is co‐driven by hydrology, nutrient and metal ions. We provide further evidence that environment regimes (e.g.

Motivations for the use and consumption of wildlife products

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 35, Issue 2, Page 483-491, April 2021., 2021
Abstract The dominant approach to combating the illegal wildlife trade has traditionally been to restrict the supply of wildlife products. Yet conservationists increasingly recognize the importance of implementing demand‐side interventions that target the end consumers in the trade chain.

Fundamental insights on when social network data are most critical for conservation planning

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 34, Issue 6, Page 1463-1472, December 2020., 2020
Abstract As declines in biodiversity accelerate, there is an urgent imperative to ensure that every dollar spent on conservation counts toward species protection. Systematic conservation planning is a widely used approach to achieve this, but there is growing concern that it must better integrate the human social dimensions of conservation to be ...
