Highlights Serum low‐density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL‐C) levels were positively and significantly associated with a high risk of incident diabetes. Even in participants with normal LDL‐C levels (<130 mg/dL), a 1‐SD increase in LDL‐C levels was significantly associated with a higher risk of diabetes development.

Highlights This is the first cross‐sectional study of the association between serum IGF2BP3 levels and odds of T2DM in high‐risk Chinese population. Two upregulated (IGF2BP2 and IGF2BP3) and 5 downregulated (METTL3, ALKBH1, YTHDF2, YTHDF3, and HNRNPC) m6A‐related genes could contribute to the occurrence of T2DM.
