Identifying socioeconomic and biophysical factors driving forest loss in protected areas
Abstract Protected areas (PAs) are a commonly used strategy to confront forest conversion and biodiversity loss. Although determining drivers of forest loss is central to conservation success, understanding of them is limited by conventional modeling assumptions.

This is a study of the spatiotemporal patterns of Human−Elephant conflict in a community area adjacent to Kuiburi National Park, southern Thailand. We examined temporal and spatial patterns of elephant crop raiding by assessing the locations of elephant raids in conjunction with environmental factors along with crop characteristics and crop ...

Savviness of prey to introduced predators
Abstract The prey naivety hypothesis posits that prey are vulnerable to introduced predators because many generations in slow gradual coevolution are needed for appropriate avoidance responses to develop. It predicts that prey will be more responsive to native than introduced predators and less responsive to introduced predators that differ ...

Understanding the drivers of expert opinion when classifying species as extinct
Abstract The criteria as laid out by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List are the gold standard by which the extinction risk of a species is assessed and where appropriate biological extinctions are declared. However, unlike all other categories, the category of extinct lacks a quantitative framework for assigning this

ABSTRACT Urban expansion significantly impacts flood risk, particularly in rapidly growing areas where impervious surfaces exacerbate surface runoff. This study examines spatial patterns of urban growth and their effects on flood exposure in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, from 2011 to 2021.

Mosaic Image Generation Method Based on Geodesic Voronoi Diagram [PDF]

ABSTRACT Sepsis is a leading cause of mortality in the United States, with over 350,000 deaths annually, yet the contribution of neighborhood‐level social determinants of health (SDoH) remains underexplored. We conducted a retrospective analysis of 4.4 million hospitalized patients with sepsis, identified using ICD‐10 codes, leveraging de‐identified ...
