On the normative roles of biodiversity and naturalness in conservation. [PDF]
Abstract Nature is an opaque concept. Consequently, the term biodiversity conservation has replaced nature conservation in most conservation contexts. We review the conceptual indeterminacies that plague the terms nature and natural but then show that comparable difficulties plague biodiversity.

Assessing the Corn Belt as an anthropogenic barrier to migrating landbirds in the United States. [PDF]
Abstract Migrating landbirds adjust their flight and stopover behaviors to efficiently cross inhospitable geographies, such as the Gulf of Mexico and the Sahara Desert. In addition to these natural barriers, birds may increasingly encounter anthropogenic barriers created by large‐scale changes in land use. One such barrier could be the Corn Belt in the

Feeding the future in Ghana: Gender inequality, poverty, and food insecurity
Abstract As women's empowerment is critical for the adoption of agricultural technologies by farmers, some governments have over the last three decades adopted a gender equality approach to food security. In Ghana, women play a vital role as farmers and food processors, which means they impact household nutrition in important ways.

Background: There is increasing evidence of cross‐reactivity between allergens of close or distant species. The A‐RISC (Allergens'–Relative Identity, Similarity and Cross‐reactivity) index helps evaluate the risk of theoretical cross‐reactivity between proteins of the same family among different species.

Overreliance on Orthographic Similarity in L2‐Japanese Conceptual Processing by L1‐Chinese Learners
ABSTRACT Orthographic and phonological similarities between first (L1) and second (L2) languages can facilitate L2 processing. Particularly, L1‐Chinese learners of L2‐Japanese can benefit from the shared morphosyllabic Chinese characters (Japanese kanji/Chinese hanzi) because of their similar orthographies.

Porous Mn2O3@C Cathode With High Activity and Long Lifespan for Aqueous Zinc Ion Batteries
ABSTRACT Manganese‐based oxides are widely employed as cathode materials for aqueous zinc ion batteries (AZIBs) due to their low toxicity and high theoretical specific capacity. However, their inherent poor electrical conductivity, coupled with the dissolution of manganese into the electrolyte, often leads to structural degradation of the cathode.
