Protective effects of nattokinase against microvasculopathy and neuroinflammation in diabetic retinopathy

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes, Volume 15, Issue 10, Page 866-880, October 2023., 2023
Highlights Nattokinase rescued endothelial dysfunction and pericyte loss in the diabetic retina. Nattokinase attenuated diabetes‐induced retinal inflammation and neurodegeneration. High mobility group box 1 signaling was involved in nattokinase‐mediated retinal protection.

The effects of daily dose and treatment duration of metformin on the prevalence of vitamin B12 deficiency and peripheral neuropathy in Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus: A multicenter cross‐sectional study

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes, Volume 15, Issue 9, Page 765-776, September 2023., 2023
Highlights This is the first multicenter, cross‐sectional study on the prevalence of vitamin B12 deficiency in Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) receiving metformin treatment. About one out of five patients with T2DM receiving ≥1500 mg/day metformin could develop vitamin B12 deficiency.

Increased glutamate in type 2 diabetes in the Korean population is associated with increased plasminogen levels

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes, Volume 15, Issue 9, Page 777-786, September 2023., 2023
Highlights Increased glutamate is associated with the development of diabetes. Glutamate increases plasminogen (PLG) levels through glutamate metabotropic receptor 5 activation with various insulin resistance‐related stresses. Glutamate inhibits the conversion of PLG to plasmin by increasing plasminogen activator inhibitor‐1.

Correlation of ACR and TcPO2 in diabetic kidney disease patients: A pilot study

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes, Volume 15, Issue 6, Page 488-495, June 2023., 2023
Highlights Transcutaneous oxygen pressure (TcPO2) could be used to assess microcirculation, which revealed endothelial injury. As endothelial injury is a cause of albuminuria in diabetic kidney disease (DKD), albuminuria and creatinine (ACR) might be employed to assess microcirculation in DKD patients in rural hospital where TcPO2 is not available. Our

Autophagy in the retinal neurovascular unit: New perspectives into diabetic retinopathy

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes, Volume 15, Issue 5, Page 382-396, May 2023., 2023
HighlightsAutophagy is closely related to retinal neurovascular units in diabetes retinopathy. Different cells participate in the occurrence and development of diseases through autophagy, and targeted autophagy may be a new direction of treatment in the future. Emphasized the close relationship between diabetic retinopathy (DR) and autophagy Summarized

Sociodemographic circumstances, health, and life experience shape posttraumatic distress trajectories among individuals exposed to smoke during a large‐scale coal mine fire

open access: yesJournal of Traumatic Stress, Volume 36, Issue 2, Page 465-473, April 2023., 2023
Abstract The 2014 Hazelwood coal mine fire in the Latrobe Valley, Australia, distributed toxic smoke into surrounding communities over 45 days. This study investigated risk and protective factors associated with four trajectories of posttraumatic distress (resilient, recovery, delayed‐onset, chronic) among exposed adults.

The association between childhood maltreatment and suicidal intrusions: A cross‐sectional study

open access: yesJournal of Traumatic Stress, Volume 35, Issue 4, Page 1273-1281, August 2022., 2022
Abstract Childhood maltreatment may play an important role in the transition from suicidal ideation to suicidal behavior. Recently, research has begun evaluating the association between childhood maltreatment and involuntary and distressing intrusions about one's own suicide, also called suicidal intrusions.

Toward tailored care for families with multiple problems: A quasi‐experimental study on effective elements of care

open access: yesFamily Process, Volume 61, Issue 2, Page 571-590, June 2022., 2022
Abstract Several effective interventions have been developed for families with multiple problems (FMP), but knowledge is lacking as to which specific practice and program elements of these interventions deliver positive outcomes. The aim of this study is to assess the degree to which practice and program elements (contents of and structure in which ...

Percutaneous fetoscopic spina bifida repair: effect on ambulation and need for postnatal cerebrospinal fluid diversion and bladder catheterization

open access: yesUltrasound in Obstetrics &Gynecology, Volume 58, Issue 4, Page 582-589, October 2021., 2021
Abstract Objective A trial comparing prenatal with postnatal open spina bifida (OSB) repair established that prenatal surgery was associated with better postnatal outcome. However, in the trial, fetal surgery was carried out through hysterotomy. Minimally invasive approaches are being developed to mitigate the risks of open maternal–fetal surgery.

Prediction of the development of islet autoantibodies through integration of environmental, genetic, and metabolic markers

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes, Volume 13, Issue 2, Page 143-153, February 2021., 2021
Highlights A machine learning model can significantly predict imminent development of islet autoimmunity based on environmental, genetic, and metabolic features. The machine learning algorithm feature selection identified type 1 diabetes‐associated single nucleotide polymorphisms from The Environmental Determinants of the Diabetes in the Young (TEDDY ...
