野生动物学报, 1990 狐不是狸通常所说狐狸,指的是赤狐;而狐和狸是两种截然不同的动物,两者不能混为一谈。狸又名貉,它的外貌虽然有点象狐,但是也有明显的区别。其一,狸的身体比狐胖;其二狸的尾巴没有狐来得长;其三,狸的吻部不象狐那么长;其四,狸的四肢比狐短;其五,毛色与狐也不相同,面部差异更大。根据这五点,人们就可以区别开狸和狐。在产地上,狸仅分布于中国（除台湾和海南岛）、苏联、日本、芬兰、朝鲜及印度支那北部;而狐的分布范围很广,中国、日本、朝鲜、蒙古、苏联、东欧、西欧、北非、近东、中东、南亚及印度支那等地,都有其足迹。
