Temporal Responses and Direct Encounters Among Native and Invasive Carnivores: Behavioral Evaluation Using Artificial Bait Sites

open access: yesJournal of Zoology, EarlyView.
At artificial bait sites, raccoon dogs (Nyctereutes procyonoides) exhibited delayed temporal responses to red foxes (Vulpes vulpes) despite dominating direct encounters. In contrast, the invasive masked palm civet (Paguma larvata) showed no significant temporal responses toward either native species (raccoon dogs and red foxes), despite consistently ...

Constructed value of information with iterative scoring and parametric uncertainty to identify management‐relevant research priorities for a declining raptor species

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 40, Issue 4, August 2026.
Abstract Constructed value of information (CVoI) is an expert elicitation decision‐analytic tool used to prioritize sources of uncertainty based on their potential to improve decision outcomes if resolved. Despite increased application of CVoI, the robustness of CVoI prioritization of sources of uncertainty relative to differences in expert elicitation

Individual Variation in Overwintering Strategies of the Great Evening Bat (Ia io) in Subtropical China 中国亚热带地区大足蝠 (Ia io) 越冬策略的个体差异

open access: yesWildlife Letters, Volume 4, Issue 2, Page 66-72, June 2026.
Tracking with GPS and accelerometers shows that great evening bats in subtropical China use two overwintering strategies: some remain in continuous hibernation, while others switch between torpor and activity as temperatures change. This behavioral flexibility, shaped by climate, underscores the importance of protecting diverse roosting habitats for ...

Generation cycles in experimental populations of a multivoltine insect

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, Volume 95, Issue 5, Page 782-794, May 2026.
Although theory suggests various mechanisms by which environmental and ecological factors may drive generational fluctuations, our field‐cage experiment is the first to demonstrate how internal dynamics and external disturbances jointly produce synchronised, large‐scale outbreak cycles.

Overreliance on Orthographic Similarity in L2‐Japanese Conceptual Processing by L1‐Chinese Learners

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Linguistics, Volume 36, Issue 2, Page 1807-1820, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Orthographic and phonological similarities between first (L1) and second (L2) languages can facilitate L2 processing. Particularly, L1‐Chinese learners of L2‐Japanese can benefit from the shared morphosyllabic Chinese characters (Japanese kanji/Chinese hanzi) because of their similar orthographies.

Clip Voice: Misogyny and the Renegotiation of a Gendered Vocal Style in Chinese Digital Discourse

open access: yesJournal of Sociolinguistics, Volume 29, Issue 5, Page 348-359, November 2025.
ABSTRACT The participatory culture of social media allows women's voices to be heard but also parodied and policed. On Chinese social media platforms, where performers rapidly adopt and transform vocal trends for engagement, discourse on gendered vocal styles has proliferated.

Agricultural Lands as Important Wintering Habitats for the Critically Endangered Yellow‐Breasted Bunting in Nepal 尼泊尔农业用地作为极危黄胸鹀的重要越冬栖息地

open access: yesIntegrative Conservation, Volume 4, Issue 2, Page 134-142, June 2025.
Our study addresses the significant knowledge gap regarding the wintering population and habitat utilization of the Yellow‐breasted Bunting (Emberiza aureola) in Nepal, providing crucial insights that can aid in the conservation of this critically endangered species in wintering grounds.

Plantation management to restore early and late‐successional bird habitat under various climatic and seasonal conditions

open access: yesEcological Applications, Volume 35, Issue 1, January 2025.
Abstract Although agriculture and plantation forestry have decreased natural open habitats and old‐growth forests, conservation in managed lands is considered essential for achieving “nature‐positive” goals that reverse biodiversity trends from negative to positive. From subboreal to temperate regions, mature conifer plantations with broadleaved trees (
