Rotation Measure and Opacity Asymmetry in 2134+004 [PDF]

open access: yesPublications of the Astronomical Society of Australia, 2003
AbstractBased on the free–free absorption (FFA) model of gigahertz peaked spectrum (GPS) sources, we explain both Faraday rotation asymmetry and opacity asymmetry consistently between two components of a GPS quasar 2134+004. The FFA model assumes dense plasma around the central core to produce FFA, and the difference of path lengths in the plasma ...

Atomically Revealing Bulk Point Defect Dynamics in Hydrogen‐Driven γ‐Fe2O3 → Fe3O4 → FeO Transformation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In situ TEM uncovers the atomic‐scale mechanisms underlying hydrogen‐driven γ‐Fe2O3→Fe3O4→FeO reduction. In γ‐Fe2O3, oxygen vacancies cluster around intrinsic Fe vacancies, leading to nanopore formation, whereas in Fe3O4, vacancy aggregation is suppressed, preserving a dense structure.

Systematic study of the $^{87}$Sr clock transition in an optical lattice

open access: yes, 2005
With ultracold $^{87}$Sr confined in a magic wavelength optical lattice, we present the most precise study (2.8 Hz statistical uncertainty) to-date of the $^1S_0$ - $^3P_0$ optical clock transition with a detailed analysis of systematic shifts (20 Hz ...

How Does a Delicate Insect Wing Resist Damage? Chitin Orientation Is Adapted to the Mechanical Demands at the Nanoscale

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Nanoscale chitin fiber orientations in the insect wing play a critical role in adapting to complex mechanical demands. These findings reveal two distinct and functionally adaptive chitin orientation patterns in the membranes that vary regionally, optimizing mechanical resilience and deformation control.

A graph discretization of the Laplace-Beltrami operator [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We show that eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the Laplace-Beltrami operator on a Riemannian manifold are approximated by eigenvalues and eigenvectors of a (suitably weighted) graph Laplace operator of a proximity graph on an epsilon-net.Comment: 29 ...

Biphasic Ni‐MXene Quantum‐Confined Nanostructures: A Versatile Janus Platform for Advanced Energy Storage and Catalytic Oxidations

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A biphasic Ni‐MXene quantum‐confined nanostructure (Ni‐MJQD) serves as a Janus platform, simultaneously achieving high‐performance energy storage and efficient catalytic oxidation. The unique architecture enables superior energy storage performance and selective benzyl alcohol oxidation‐symbolizing “one stone, two birds” for sustainable energy and ...
