THE CELLULAR RECEPTOR (CD4) OF THE HUMAN IMMUNODEFICIENCY VIRUS IS EXPRESSED ON NEURONS AND GLIAL CELLS IN HUMAN BRAIN [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
The peculiar tropism of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) for T helper lymphocytes can be explained by a specific interaction between the virus and the CD4 molecule on these cells (1, 2).

Comparison of Conventional and Molecular Methods in the Detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in Clinically Suspected Samples of Tuberculosis

open access: yesJournal of Pure and Applied Microbiology, 2019
Impeded diagnosis in Tuberculosis may be a major cause of morbidity and mortality among particular group of patients, hence better methods are needed for the accurate detection of tuberculosis (TB) among both smear positive and smear negative cases ...

Long‐term prognosis is associated with residual disease after neoadjuvant systemic therapy but not with initial nodal status

open access: yesBJS (British Journal of Surgery), EarlyView., 2020
This long‐term follow‐up study determined survival rates in a Swedish national cohort of 417 patients with breast cancer who all had neoadjuvant systemic therapy (NAST). Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) was performed before NAST in clinically node‐negative and after NAST in clinically node‐positive patients.

Evaluation of effectiveness of a social reintegration program following a burn injury

open access: yesBurns Open, 2021
The increased survival rate of individuals with a burn injury over the last two decades has led to a greater need for research focused on social reintegration among individuals post-burn in order to improve their reintegration back into society and their

Clean Cut (adaptive, multimodal surgical infection prevention programme) for low‐resource settings: a prospective quality improvement study

open access: yesBJS (British Journal of Surgery), EarlyView., 2020
Clean Cut is a multimodal, adaptive, checklist‐based infection prevention programme designed to improve compliance with six critical perioperative infection prevention practices. After introducing the programme at five hospitals in Ethiopia, compliance with critical infection prevention standards significantly improved and the relative risk of ...

European multicentre study on outcome of surgery for sporadic primary hyperparathyroidism

open access: yesBJS (British Journal of Surgery), EarlyView., 2020
Some 5861 patients undergoing first‐time surgery for sporadic primary hyperparathyroidism were registered in the Eurocrine® database between 2015 and 2018. The use of intraoperative parathyroid hormone measurement decreased the risk of conversion and persistent hypercalcaemia.
