The production of 1,2-propanediol in ethanol treated rats

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1985
Chronic administration of ethanol in the most commonly used experimental diet (Lieber, C. S., and DeCarli, L. M. (1976) Fed. Proceed. 35, 1232-1236) resulted in the production of 1,2-propanediol within one week of initiation of alcohol feeding. After two weeks 1,2-propanediol levels were 8.8 +/- 1.6 nmol/ml in alcohol treated animals.

Toxicology, metabolism, and biochemistry of 1,2-propanediol

Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology, 1972
Abstract The toxicity of 1,2-propanediol is reviewed, and a table of the LD50 values for the rat, rabbit, mouse, guinea pig, and dog is presented. Metabolic and chronic studies demonstrate that 1,2-propanediol can be used as a substitute for carbohydrate in the diet of rats and young chicks. The glycol is primarily oxidized to lactate or pyruvate.

Optimization of Hydrogenolysis of Glycerol to 1,2-Propanediol

Organic Process Research & Development, 2013
Based on statistical experimental design methodology, the single-response optimization of technological parameters of glycerol hydrogenolysis to 1,2-propanediol was performed. The independent factors (technological parameters) considered were the following: hydrogenolysis temperature, glycerol concentration in water, concentration of catalyst, and ...

Catalytic dehydration of 1,2-propanediol into propanal

Applied Catalysis A: General, 2009
Abstract Vapor-phase catalytic dehydration of 1,2-propanediol was investigated over several catalysts, such as acidic oxides and supported heteropoly acids. These acids catalyze the dehydration of 1,2-propanediol to produce propanal. In particular, silica-supported silicotungstic acid showed the highest catalytic activity in the formation of propanal.

Ternary systems with 1,2-propanediol—A new gain in the stability of the amorphous state in the system water-1,2-propanediol-1-propanol

Cryobiology, 1982
Abstract Three ternary systems with water and 1,2-propanediol were investigated, where the third component is 1-propanol, ethanol, or glycerol. 1-Propanol and ethanol give hydrates in their aqueous solutions as well as in these ternary systems, while glycerol gives none.

Excess molar volumes of (water + 1,2-propanediol), (methanol + 1,2-propanediol), and (water + methanol + 1,2-propanediol) at 283.15 K, 298.15 K, and 303.15 K

The Journal of Chemical Thermodynamics, 1990
Abstract The excess molar volumes VmE of (water + 1,2-propanediol), (methanol + 1,2-propanediol), and (water + methanol + 1,2-propanediol) have been measured at 283.15 K, 293.15 K, and 303.15 K by using a vibrating-tube densimeter. The values of VmE are all negative over the entire range of mole fractions.

The Wrappers of the 1,2-Propanediol Utilization Bacterial Microcompartments

2018
The propanediol utilization bacterial microcompartments are specialized protein-based organelles in Salmonella that facilitate the catabolism of 1,2-propanediol when available as the sole carbon source. This smart prokaryotic cell organelle compartmentalizes essential enzymes and substrates in a volume of a few attoliters compared to the femtoliter ...

Effects of 1,2-propanediol on the cytoskeletal organization of the mouse oocyte

Human Reproduction, 1992
The effects of 1,2-propanediol, a cryoprotectant used for the freezing of embryos, were tested on the organization of microtubules and microfilaments in mouse oocytes arrested in metaphase II. At low doses (less than or equal to 1.0 M), 1,2-propanediol induced disorganization of the meiotic spindle but at 1.5 M and higher, it stabilized the spindle ...

Stereospecific Microbial Conversion of Lactic Acid into 1,2-Propanediol

ACS Synthetic Biology, 2014
Biocatalytic syntheses are increasingly explored as the alternate platform of chemical production in order to address the sustainable development challenge faced by the current chemical industry. Here, we report the design and implementation of an artificial pathway to convert lactic acid into 1,2-propanediol.
