Structural and Biophysical Characterization of C‐Glycosylic 1,2‐Thiodisaccharides Reveals Determinants of Selective Binding to Galectin‐7 and Galectin‐8N

open access: yesChemMedChem, Volume 21, Issue 16, 27 August 2026.
The molecular basis of galectin recognition by C‐glycosylic 1,2‐thiodisaccharides is revealed. While Gly‐1 provides a conserved affinity driving interaction, Gly‐2 governs isoform selectivity through contacts with variable CRD regions. Unique galectin‐8N residues are identified as attractive handles for the development of next‐generation selective ...

Chitosan‐induced modulation of secondary metabolism and stress tolerance in Salvia rosmarinus under combined drought and heat stress

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, Volume 106, Issue 10, Page 5989-6001, 15 August 2026.
Abstract BACKGROUND Abiotic stresses, particularly drought and elevated temperatures, negatively affect plant physiological and metabolic processes. This study investigated the effects of drought, heat, and combined stress on Salvia rosmarinus (rosemary), and evaluated foliar‐applied chitosan as a biostimulant.

Ethylene glycol is metabolized to ethanol and acetate and induces expression of bacterial microcompartments in Propionibacterium freudenreichii

open access: yesHeliyon
Ethylene glycol (EG, 1,2-ethanediol) is a two-carbon dihydroxy alcohol that can be derived from fermentation of plant-derived xylose and arabinose and which can be formed during food fermentations.

Synthesis of DNA Building Blocks With Aminonaphthalimides and Cyanovinylenes as Uncharged Fluorophores: Fluorescent Readout From Turn‐On to Red‐Shift

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, Volume 29, Issue 29, 7 August 2026.
DNA architectures with aminonaphthalimides and cyanovinylenes as base surrogates form interstrand and intrastrand dimers showed that can be used as nucleic acid‐sensitive probes by their fluorescence turn‐on and red‐shift as readouts. The fluorescence turn‐on was tested by probing N6‐methyl‐2’‐deoxyadenosine (m6A) in DNA.

A review of skin microbiome and new challenges to cosmetic microbiome‐friendly formulations

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, Volume 48, Issue 4, Page 780-797, August 2026.
Microbiome‐friendly concepts offer new perspectives for a healthy relationship between cosmetic use and the skin microbiome, especially the interaction of non‐biotic cosmetic ingredients with the skin, requiring further studies to clarify the dynamics between the skin microbiome and different classes of cosmetic ingredients.

Employing Nanotechnology to Enhance Ethanol Production in Two Synechococcus elongatus Strains

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 27, Issue 14, 29 July 2026.
Here, we report on how bacterial microcompartment technology can be used to improve bioproduction in cyanobacteria. Fusion of encapsulation peptides to the two enzymes of the ethanol biosynthetic pathway increased ethanol titres up to 84 times. 1.31 g L−1 of ethanol was produced in 6 days.

Metal‐Free, Mild, and Sustainable Synthesis of Bio‐Based Polyesters via EDC/DMAP‐Mediated Polycondensation: Structure–Property Relationships and Thermal Stability

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 14, 29 July 2026.
We developed a mild, metal‐free EDC/DMAP‐mediated polycondensation platform for bio‐based polyesters from FDCA (2,5‐furandicarboxylic acid) and succinic acid, enabling access to homopolyesters from unsaturated and aliphatic diols as well as heteropolyesters prepared by one‐pot or sequential routes.
