Solid‐State Diffusion and Intermetallic Phase Formation in Roll‐Bonded Mg–Zn Composites With Kirigami‐Patterned Inlay

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

Methyl 2,2-dimethoxy-8-oxo-1-oxaspiro[4.5]deca-6,9-diene-3-carboxylate

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E, 2012
In the title molecule, C13H16O6, the cyclohexa-1,4-diene ring adopts a flat boat conformation (r.m.s. deviation from planarity = 0.060 Å) and the five-membered tetrahydrofuran ring adopts an envelope conformation with the carboxyl ...

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

The Basis Number of 1-Planar Graphs

open access: yesAnnals of Combinatorics
Let $B$ be a set of Eulerian subgraphs of a graph $G$. We say $B$ forms a $k$-basis if it is a minimum set that generates the cycle space of $G$, and any edge of $G$ lies in at most $k$ members of $B$. The basis number of a graph $G$, denoted by $b(G)$, is the smallest integer such that $G$ has a $k$-basis. A graph is called 1-planar (resp.

Fluorescence of 8-Acyl-1-Pyrrolidinylnaphthalenes

open access: yesPhotochem
Four 8-acyl-1-pyrrolidinylnaphalenes are prepared where the acyl group is pivaloyl (6), benzoyl (7), benzyloxycarbonyl (8), and ethyloxycarbonyl (9). Crystal structures for 6–8 show that both the carbonyl and pyrrolidinyl groups are nearly perpendicular ...

Microstructure Evolution of a VMnFeCoNi High‐Entropy Alloy After Synthesis, Swaging, and Annealing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The synthesis and processing (rotary swaging and annealing) of the novel VMnFeCoNi alloy is investigated, alongside the estimation of the grain size effect on hardness. Analysis of a wide grain size range of recrystallized microstructures (12–210 µm) reveals a low annealing twin density.

(1E,4E)-1,5-Bis[2-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]penta-1,4-dien-3-one

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E, 2013
In the title compound, C19H12F6O, a monoketone derivative of curcumin, both double bonds have a trans conformation. The molecule is mostly planar with all C and O atoms essentially coplanar, with the exception of one benzene ring, which is tilted by 17 ...
