Architectural and Management Strategies for the Design, Construction and Operation of Energy Efficient and Intelligent Primary Care Centers in Chile [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Primary care centers are establishments with elevated social relevance and high operational energy consumption. In Chile, there more than 628 family healthcare centers (CESFAM) have been built in the last two decades and with plans for hundreds more in

Dose‐dependent induction of epithelial‐mesenchymal transition in 3D melanoma models by non‐thermal plasma treatment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Non‐thermal plasma treatment of melanoma cells induced epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in a dose‐dependent fashion. This report highlights the critical need to further investigate potential adverse effects of non‐thermal plasma for cancer therapy and to optimize treatment parameters for clinical translation. Despite the promising results of non‐

The projection of canadian wind energy potential in future scenarios using a convection-permitting regional climate model

open access: yesEnergy Reports, 2022
The distribution of wind resources in the future will be altered by climate change. The high-resolution regional climate model is a powerful tool for predicting wind power changes. We use a pair of 4-km convection-permitting Weather Research Forecasting (

BMP antagonist CHRDL2 enhances the cancer stem‐cell phenotype and increases chemotherapy resistance in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Overexpression of CHRDL2 in colon cancer cells makes them more stem‐like and resistant to chemo‐ and radiotherapy. CHRDL2‐high cells have upregulation of the WNT pathway, genes involved in the DNA damage response (DDR) pathway and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT). This leads to quicker repair of damaged DNA and more cell migration.

Changing routinized household energy consumption using the example of washing, cooking, and standby: A randomized controlled field experiment of home energy advice

open access: yesCleaner and Responsible Consumption, 2022
Despite advances in understanding routines, there is little knowledge about which aspects of routinized behavior people adjust during interventions. In this study, we applied an adjusted social practice theory framework to disentangle routinized energy ...

Targeting carbonic anhydrase IX/XII prevents the anti‐ferroptotic effect of stromal lactic acid in prostate carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In prostate carcinoma, lactic acid, secreted by highly glycolytic cancer‐associated fibroblasts, is imported into tumor cells through the MCT1 transporter and prevents RSL3 and erastin‐induced ferroptosis (A). Targeting of carbonic anhydrase IX/XII, the main extracellular pH regulators, in tumor and stromal cells reduces microenvironmental acidosis and
