Health Physics, 1997The metabolic data for cesium and the biologically similar element potassium in the pregnant woman were reviewed. Due to the rapid growth of the placenta and fetus, the pregnancy was divided into four gestational periods: five through ten weeks, eleven through twenty weeks, twenty-one through thirty weeks, and thirty-one through forty weeks.

Derivation of 137Cs deposition density from measurements of 137Cs inventories in undisturbed soils
Journal of Environmental Radioactivity, 2002The 137Cs inventories in undisturbed soils were measured for 292 locations across the territory of Vietnam. The logarithmic inventory values were regressed against characteristics of sampling sites, such as geographical coordinates, annual rainfall and physico-chemical parameters of soil.

Abstract Evidence is presented to support the view that the approximate shape factor C = q 2 + b p 2 does not adequately describe the second-forbidden beta decay of 137 Cs. An improved formula is given, with single-particle estimates of the nuclear matrix-element ratios.

The Transfer of 137Cs from Barley to Beer
Health Physics, 1997Beer has been brewed from barley contaminated with 137Cs as a consequence of the Chernobyl accident. The 137Cs activity has been measured in all intermediate steps and in the by-products of the production process. About 35% of the 137Cs in barley were recovered in beer. In model experiments in rats it is elucidated that low dose incorporated 137Cs moderate increases bactericidity of neutrophyles, do not influences on intensivity of phagocythosis and a few increases its activity. Zoosocial stress causes markedly supression whereas combined action both 137Cs and stress gives maximal effects.
