To mitigate radioactive cesium from soil to plant, increasing and maintaining the exchangeable potassium (ExK) level during growth is widely accepted after Tokyo Electric Company's Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Plant accident in Japan. This is because the antagonistic relationship between soil solution K and 134Cs + 137Cs (RCs) concentrations changes the ...

Derivation of 137Cs deposition density from measurements of 137Cs inventories in undisturbed soils
Journal of Environmental Radioactivity, 2002The 137Cs inventories in undisturbed soils were measured for 292 locations across the territory of Vietnam. The logarithmic inventory values were regressed against characteristics of sampling sites, such as geographical coordinates, annual rainfall and physico-chemical parameters of soil.

Radiocarbon and 137Cs dating of wines
Journal of Environmental Radioactivity, 2020Wine dating methods based on anthropogenic 14C and 137Cs, as well as on the cosmogenic 14C were studied with the aim to improve the accuracy and precision of the dating results. While the 14C dating method has proved to be useful for dating young and old wines, the 137Cs has been effective for dating of wines originating around the 137Cs bomb-peak ...

Vertical profile of 137Cs in soil
Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 2004In this paper, a vertical distribution of 137Cs in undisturbed soil was investigated experimentally and theoretically. Soil samples were taken from the surroundings of the city of Kragujevac in central Serbia during spring-summer of 2001. The sampling locations were chosen in such a way that the influence of soil characteristics on depth distribution ...

Human Uptake of 137Cs in Mutton
Health Physics, 1993The uptake of radiocesium from mutton contaminated by fallout from the Chernobyl reactor accident has been studied in eight healthy male volunteers. Each subject consumed, on adjacent days, two meals prepared from the mutton containing a total of 0.8 kBq 137Cs.

137Cs Dosimeter Irradiation Facilities
Health Physics, 2017Many dosimeter and instrument calibration sources, especially Cs irradiators permanently installed in facilities, are infrequently calibrated since their geometry is not subject to large variation, their mechanisms are simple, and their operation can be visibly error-free for decades.

Evaluating gully erosion using 137Cs and 210Pb/137Cs ratio in a reservoir catchment
Soil and Tillage Research, 2003Water erosion in the hilly areas of west China is the main process contributing to the overall sediment of the Yellow River and the Yangtze River. The impact of gully erosion in total sediment output has been mostly neglected. Our objective was to assess the sediment production and sediment sources at both the hillslope and catchment scales in the ...

The goal of the paper has been to determine the activity of 137Cs in the soil and water samples from the Nature Park Kopački Rit in the northeastern part of Croatia. The soil samples were collected according to the standard procedures of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on 14 different locations on Kopački Rit.

Global pollution by artificial radionuclides as a consequence of nuclear experiments or nuclear power plant accidents has resulted in radioactive contamination of trees in forest ecosystems. Processed wood as raw material is permanently present in the environment of humans, thus contributing by its radioactive contamination to an increase in the ...
