Stress‐to‐Light Conversion in an Earth‐Abundant Oxide Semiconductor

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Stress‐to‐light conversion in solids represents a unique photonic functionality, yet it has never been realized in a chemically simple and sustainable material. Here, we show that sustainable semiconductor ZnO exhibits strong near‐infrared (NIR) luminescence under elastic stress when defect‐engineered to stabilize the p‐type state.

Engineering Biochar‐Derived Functional Materials for High‐Performance Supercapacitors: Design Principles, Mechanisms, and Scalable Strategies

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Biochar has emerged as a useful and adaptable source of carbon for supercapacitor electrodes. Its value comes from the way biomass chemistry, thermal conversion, and activation conditions shape the resulting pore network, surface groups, and degree of carbon ordering.

Quantifying Political Self-Organization in Social Media. Fractal patterns in the Spanish 15M movement on Twitter [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Artificial Life, ECAL 2013, 2013
The objective of this work is to better analyse and understand social self-organization in the context of social media and political activism. More specifically, we centre our analysis in the presence of fractal scaling in the form of 1/f noise in different Twitter communication networks related to the Spanish 15M movement.

Inequalities in intraspecific plant–lemur interactions drive seed dispersal patterns

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Biotic interactions occur between individuals and accumulate to shape species‐level interaction structure across a community. Skewed interaction structures, where a few individuals are highly connected and most have few interactions, are increasingly identified at the individual‐level.

Urban inequalities and marginalization of the Social and Solidarity Economy: A comparative analysis in the Sants‐Montjuïc district in Barcelona

open access: yesAnnals of Public and Cooperative Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract This article examines how urban inequalities influence the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) through a study of two Barcelona neighbourhoods. It evaluates the limitations of SSE promotion policies implemented between 2016 and 2024, focusing on their impact on diversifying socio‐enterprise initiatives and fostering cooperative ecosystems with

RotGS: Rotation‐Guided 3D Gaussian Splatting for Turntable Sequences without Structure‐from‐Motion

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract The field of 3D reconstruction from multi‐view images has advanced rapidly thanks to 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS), which enables efficient and photorealistic scene representation. However, optimizing 3DGS requires high‐quality images from various viewpoints with accurate camera poses.

Authoring Terrestrial Planets with Diffusion Models

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract To support the design and subsequent generation of terrestrial planets for use in the creative media, we propose a solution that employs a generative model trained on satellite data from planetary bodies with a defined solid surface, such as the Earth and Mars.
