Importance of correct B value determination to quantify biological N2 fixation and N balances of faba beans (Vicia faba L.) via 15N natural abundance

Biology and Fertility of Soils, 2013
Quantifying biologically fixed nitrogen (BNF) by legumes through the 15N natural abundance techniques requires correct determination of a so-called B value. We hypothesized that significant variations in B values exist between faba bean (Vicia faba L.) varieties having consequences for BNF and N balance calculations.

Influence of dietary purines on pool size, turnover, and excretion of uric acid during balance conditions

Research in Experimental Medicine, 1982
Pool size, turnover, and excretion of uric acid were investigated in three normal subjects both during purine-free, isoenergetic liquid formula diet and during additional purine administration by use of isotope dilution techniques. The fractional turnover of the uric acid pool was increased during dietary purine administration suggesting an increased ...

The carbon dynamics in the experimental plots. Use of 13C- and 15N-labelled compounds for the soil-plant balance in carbon sequestration

2012
This chapter reviews some of the methodologies and applications of N and C stable isotopes most useful to trace the fate of added organic or mineral material to the soil in natural and agricultural systems. Main results from two field experiments, one with N and the other with C stable isotopes, carried within the frame of MESCOSAGR project are ...

Acute metabolic effects of human growth hormone on 15N-nitrogen balance in patients with thalassaemia as compared to patients with other types of short stature.

Journal of pediatric endocrinology & metabolism : JPEM, 1999
The acute response to various doses of human growth hormone (hGH) was determined in short patients with thalassaemia and compared to that in patients with classic growth hormone deficiency and Turner's syndrome. Nitrogen balance was analyzed using the stable isotope 15N.

[The effect of truncular subdiaphragmatic vagotomy and pyloroplasty on the nitrogen balance in bionomal rat gastric surgery using the isotope labeled amino acid 15N-glycine].

Zeitschrift fur experimentelle Chirurgie, 1979
By use of stable isotope labeled amin acid 15N-glycine the effects of truncular subdiaphragmatic vagotomy and of pyloroplasty, which are comprised in the method of bionomic gastric operations, were studied separately. The assessment of nitrogen equilibrium in rats after only truncular vagotomy, only pyloroplasty, truncular vagotomy combined with ...

[Nitrogen exchange in the large intestine of ruminants. 4. Exchange and isotope balance of intracecally administered 14C- and 15N-urea in sheep with simultaneous intracecal dose of a partly hydrolyzed straw meal].

Archiv fur Tierernahrung, 1987
Two experiments were performed with wethers (Body weight 34 to 44 kg) receiving a ration rich in crude fibre at maintenance level. The animals were fitted with ileocaecal cannulas into which 14C-, 15N-labelled urea together with digesta was introduced hourly for a 24 hours period (V1; 2 animals). In experiment two (V2; 3 animals) in addition HCl-partly

Previous integrated or organic farming affects productivity and ecosystem N balance rather than fertilizer 15N allocation to plants and soil, leaching, or gaseous emissions (NH3, N2O, and N2)

Ecological intensification strategies in agriculture, including organic fertilization and diversified crop rotations, aim to reduce nitrogen (N) losses to the environment. However, studies on N allocation and loss on adjacent sites with the same pedoclimatic conditions but different management histories, i.e.
