Depositional and Hydrological Relationships Between Buried Dead Ice and the Active Layer in the McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica: A Study of Sediment Geochemistry and Cation Concentrations

open access: yesPermafrost and Periglacial Processes, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The McMurdo Dry Valleys, the largest ice‐free region in Antarctica, are home to a cold‐desert hydrologic system of glaciers, snowbanks, streams, and lakes. Freshwater is also stored as dead glacial ice, which is poorly constrained in terms of ion concentrations and interactions with both in situ and overlying sediments.

Towards highly efficient thin-film solar cells with a graded-bandgap CZ TSSe layer. Part II: Piecewise-homogeneous bandgap grading

open access: yesJPhys Energy
In Part I, we optoelectronically optimized a thin-film solar cell with a graded-bandgap CZTSSe photon-absorbing layer and a periodically corrugated backreflector, using the hybridizable discontinuous Galerkin (HDG) scheme to solve the drift-diffusion ...

Flexible nap scheduling for cognitive recovery in young adults after acute sleep restriction

open access: yesSleep Research, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective This pilot study aimed to explore the effects of supplemental sleep on cognitive recovery after acute sleep deprivation. Methods Thirty healthy adults were randomized to a morning nap group (n = 15; median age [IQR]: 20.0 [19.0–26.0] years; 33% male) or afternoon nap group (n = 15; median age: 19.0 [19.0–25.0] years; 53% male ...

A Survey Experiment on How Legal Status of Nicotine Products Influences Young Adults' Perceptions and Choices

open access: yesSouthern Economic Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study investigates how sales bans influence young adults' perceptions and their interest in using combustible and non‐combustible nicotine products in Türkiye. Using a scenario‐based, between‐subjects experimental design, participants aged 18–30 were randomly assigned to one of four conditions: cigarettes or e‐cigarettes, framed as either

Tailoring Laser Powder Bed Fusion and Post‐Processing Parameters for JIS SKD61 Tool Steels: Surface Roughness, Microstructure, and Mechanical Properties

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Laser powder bed fusion of JIS SKD61 tool steel is systematically optimized using a Taguchi design and ANOVA. Hatch spacing and layer thickness are identified as dominant parameters controlling surface roughness and tensile strength. Subsequent tempering at 600°C improves microstructural stability and mechanical performance, enabling high‐density SKD61

Isothermal Reduction Behavior and Microstructural Evolution of Iron Ore Sinter Under Simulated Radial Blast Furnace Gas Atmospheres With Hydrogen Injection

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Commercial iron ore sinter is reduced isothermally under operation‐derived radial blast furnace gas atmospheres with and without 20 kg H2/tHM injection. Hydrogen improves reduction at 900–1100 °C, whereas at 700 °C the high H2O content limits the wüstite‐to‐iron driving force.
