Microstructure of the heat‐affected zone in 17–4 PH stainless steel
Steel Research, 1989The microstructure of the heat‐affected zone (HAZ) in bead‐on‐plate welded 17–4 PH stainless steel was studied with special reference to the roles of prior heat treatment and heat input during welding. The HAZ in solution‐annealed condition consists of three different microstructural zones containing: (i) retransformed martensite and reformed austenite;

Characterization of Electron Beam Welded 17-4 PH Stainless Steel
Canadian Metallurgical Quarterly, 2008AbstractThe Canadian Department of National Defence (DND) currently has a requirement for a fully automated captive trajectory system (CTS) with six degrees of freedom, all of which are to be motorized, to study the movement of stores (such as missiles) during carriage/release testing of F-18 and other military aircraft in the National Research Council

Embrittlement Fracture in a 17-4 PH Stainless Steel after Aging at 400°C
Materials Science Forum, 2005The embrittlement fracture mechanism caused by microstructural evolution of 17-4 PH stainless steel at long term aging was studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The solution treated specimen consists largely of lath martensite with a small fraction of elongated δ-ferrite.

Laser surface melting of 17-4 PH precipitation-hardenable stainless steel
PICALO 2010: 4th Pacific International Conference on Laser Materials Processing, Micro, Nano and Ultrafast Fabrication, 2010Preciptation-hardenable (PH) stainless steels are widely employed in industry for their high mechanical strength, reasonable toughness and moderate corrosion resistance. In the present study, laser surface melting of 17-4 PH precipitation-hardenable stainless steel (Fe-17%Cr-4%Ni-4%Cu-0.3%Nb) was attempted using a 2.5-kW continuous wave Nd:YAG laser ...

Corrosion behavior of 17–4 PH stainless steel in simulated marine environment
Materials and Corrosion, 2018The corrosion behavior of 17–4 precipitation hardened (PH) stainless steel in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution was investigated in the present research by both electrochemical experiments and constant strain rate tensile tests. Electrochemical experiments revealed that corrosion behavior of PH steel was mainly controlled by cathodic reactions.

Weldability of 17-4 PH stainless steel in centrifugal compressor impeller applications
Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2004Abstract Weldability of 17-4 PH stainless steel for centrifugal compressor impeller was considered. Welding tests were carried out on the precipitation-hardened steel of the 17-4 PH type. Possibilities of joining centrifugal compressor impeller parts as important elements of turbo machines were considered. Two means of welding (1 1 1) and (1 1 4), as
