Hydrogen-Assisted Fracture of a 17-4PH Airplane Wing Component

1992
Abstract Cracks were discovered in the cast 17-4 PH stainless steel outboard leading edge flap support of an aircraft wing during overhaul inspection. Failure analysis focused on an apparently intergranular area of fracture surface. It was determined that the original mode of crack growth was cleavage, probably caused by cast-in hydrogen.

On the relation between microstructure and impact toughness of 17-4PH stainless steel produced by powder bed fusion laser beam (PBF-LB)

Materials Science & Engineering: A
This work investigated the effects of aging heat treatments on the microstructure and, consequently, the quasi-static (tensile properties) and dynamic (impact toughness) mechanical behaviour of a 17-4 PH stainless steel produced by powder bed fusion ...

MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF 17-4PH STEEL, HOMOGENIZED VERSUS AS RECEIVED CONDITION

1964
Abstract : For the particular heat of 17-4PH steel plate involved, homogenizing treatment improved the ductility as measured by the reduction of area and reduced the spread in ductility data ,or each aged condition. (Author)
