Effect of scanning speed on laser deposited 17-4PH stainless steel

2017 8th International Conference on Mechanical and Intelligent Manufacturing Technologies (ICMIMT), 2017
Laser metal deposition (LMD) is one of the additive manufacturing technologies that is used in the production of fully dense parts layer by layer. This innovative manufacturing process has the potential to reduce the weight, time and cost of manufacturing components.

Microstructure and hardness investigation of 17-4PH stainless steel by laser quenching

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2012
Abstract Surface hardening of 17-4PH was achieved by laser transformation hardening using 5 kW continuous wave CO 2 laser system. The microstructure of the laser-quenched sample was investigated by optical microscopy, transmission electron microscope and 57 Fe Mossbauer spectrometer. The hardness profile was determined by a Vickers hardness tester.

Hydrogen-Assisted Fracture of a 17-4PH Airplane Wing Component

1992
Abstract Cracks were discovered in the cast 17-4 PH stainless steel outboard leading edge flap support of an aircraft wing during overhaul inspection. Failure analysis focused on an apparently intergranular area of fracture surface. It was determined that the original mode of crack growth was cleavage, probably caused by cast-in hydrogen.

MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF 17-4PH STEEL, HOMOGENIZED VERSUS AS RECEIVED CONDITION

1964
Abstract : For the particular heat of 17-4PH steel plate involved, homogenizing treatment improved the ductility as measured by the reduction of area and reduced the spread in ductility data ,or each aged condition. (Author)
