Failure Analysis of a 17-4PH Stainless Steel Part in an Exhaust Fastener
Journal of Failure Analysis and Prevention, 2021Despite high level of attention in the process of making metallic fasteners, failure of the fasteners happens in various industries. Sometimes, failures are recognized during the quality control checks in the companies. During a batch of production and during assembly test, failure of a 17-4PH stainless steel part in an exhaust fastener was seen.

Weldability of 17-4PH stainless steel in overaged heat treated condition
Science and Technology of Welding and Joining, 2006Studies on the weldability of 17-4PH stainless steel, in the 621°C overaged condition, showed that Creq/Nieq ratio higher than 1·5 resulted in primary ferritic mode of solidification in the weld metal. Post-weld aging treatment at 482°C enhanced the strength of the weld joint with corresponding reduction in impact toughness of the weld metal while ...

Microstructure and hardness investigation of 17-4PH stainless steel by laser quenching
Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2012Abstract Surface hardening of 17-4PH was achieved by laser transformation hardening using 5 kW continuous wave CO 2 laser system. The microstructure of the laser-quenched sample was investigated by optical microscopy, transmission electron microscope and 57 Fe Mossbauer spectrometer. The hardness profile was determined by a Vickers hardness tester.

Effect of ECAP on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of 17-4PH Stainless Steel
Materials Science Forum, 2010Experiments were conducted to evaluate the influence of equal-channel angular pressing (ECAP) on the microstructure and mechanical properties of 17-4PH steel. The 17-4PH steel was solution-treated at 1040°C for 1h followed by oil cooling before ECAP process.
