Microstructure and hardness investigation of 17-4PH stainless steel by laser quenching

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2012
Abstract Surface hardening of 17-4PH was achieved by laser transformation hardening using 5 kW continuous wave CO 2 laser system. The microstructure of the laser-quenched sample was investigated by optical microscopy, transmission electron microscope and 57 Fe Mossbauer spectrometer. The hardness profile was determined by a Vickers hardness tester.

Effects of Laser Melting Treatment on Cavitation Erosion of 17-4PH Steel

Advanced Materials Research, 2013
Cavitation erosion behavior of 17-4PH steel used for large turbine blades and laser surface melting layer were investigated in simulated seawater 3.5%NaCl solution through an ultrasonic vibration system. The microstructure and the eroded surface and cross-section morphology were observed by SEM and OM, then the results were compared and analyzed.

Experimental investigation on selective laser melting of 17-4PH stainless steel

Optics & Laser Technology, 2017
Abstract Selective laser melting (SLM) is an additive manufacturing (AM) technique that uses powders to fabricate 3Dparts directly. The objective of this paper is to perform an experimental investigation of selective laser melted 17-4PH stainless steel. The investigation involved the influence of separate processing parameters on the density, defect,

Inhibitive Effect of Nitrate on Pitting Corrosion of 17-4PH Stainless Steel

Corrosion, 2016
In this work, the inhibition effect of nitrate on the pitting corrosion of 17-4PH stainless steel was investigated in the chloride solution. Potentiodynamic and potentiostatic techniques were used to measure the pitting potential and induction time in various concentrations of chloride and nitrate ions.

Influence of Sulfur Content on the Corrosion Resistance of 17-4PH Stainless Steel

Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance, 2017
According to specification standards, the basic chemical composition of steel 17-4PH for special and critical applications is 15-17% Cr, 3.0-5.0% Ni, 3.0-5.0% Cu, 0.07% C (max) and 0.15-0.45% (Nb + Ta) (wt.%). The maximum sulfur content is 0.030%. However, as it will be shown in this work, this maximum limit for sulfur is too high for services where ...

EFFECT OF CASTING DEFECT ON MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF 17-4PH STAINLESS STEEL

International Journal of Modern Physics B, 2006
Damage and integrity evaluation techniques should be developed steadily in order to ensure the reliability and the economic efficiency of gas turbine engines. Casting defects may exist in most casting components of gas turbine engines, and the defects could give serious effect on mechanical properties and fracture toughness.
