Restoration and rehabilitation of floodplain wetlands: a systematic, global review of restoration options and their outcomes

open access: yesRestoration Ecology, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction Floodplain wetlands are vitally important, highly productive, and biodiverse ecosystems. Species dependent on them are facing a range of threats including water extraction, habitat degradation, invasive species, and shifting climates.

More Science Than Art: The First Botanical Garden in Portugal (c. 1650)

open access: yesRenaissance Studies, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Gabriel Grisley, a German physician, came to Portugal and founded a garden near the Xabregas River in Lisbon, during the 1610s under the Spanish kings' rule. In view of the utility a botanic garden represented for the kingdom, he was able to obtain a royal privilege from King João IV during the Restauration War against the Spanish (1640–1668).

Comparing the effectiveness of prostate cancer screening protocols: European Association of Urology– and European Randomized Study of Screening for Prostate Cancer–based strategies

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, Volume 159, Issue 2, Page 432-439, 15 July 2026.
What's new? Although screening reduces prostate cancer mortality, concerns about overdiagnosis and unnecessary biopsies have given rise to more tailored strategies. The European Association of Urology (EAU) proposed a risk‐adapted screening strategy combining prostate‐specific antigen (PSA)‐based intervals, a risk calculator, and magnetic resonance ...

Patient‐ and Clinician‐Related Factors Associated With the Reduction in Opioid Use Among Adults With Chronic Non‐Cancer Pain: A Systematic Review

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, Volume 120, Issue 1, Page 66-80, July 2026.
Despite known risks, opioids are widely used for chronic non‐cancer pain (CNCP). Clinical guidelines now recommend deprescribing, but factors predicting success are poorly understood. This systematic review aimed to identify clinician and patient factors associated with attaining successful opioid dose reduction or discontinuation in adults with CNCP ...

Expanding the MRPS34 Genotype–Phenotype Correlation: Two Novel Cases and a Cohort Review

open access: yesJIMD Reports, Volume 67, Issue 4, July 2026.
ABSTRACT MRPS34 encodes a mitoribosomal protein essential for mitochondrial translation. Biallelic pathogenic variants in MRPS34 cause Combined Oxidative Phosphorylation Deficiency 32 (COXPD32), a rare mitochondrial disorder within the Leigh syndrome spectrum (LSS), ranging from fatal in infancy to adult survival.

Circularly Polarized Luminescent and Melt‐Processable Copper(I)‐Organic Glasses Based on 2,2′‐Bis(diphenylphosphino)‐1,1′‐binaphthyl

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 26, 22 June 2026.
Homochiral Cu(I) cyanide complexes based on 2,2’‐bis(diphenylphosphino)‐1,1’‐binaphthyl (BINAP) form melt‐quenched and desolvation‐derived metal–organic glasses that exhibit circularly polarized thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) at room temperature, enabling processable chiroptical materials.

Atmospheric Chemistry of CFH2CH2CH2CFH2: Kinetics and Mechanism of Reactions With Cl Atoms and OH Radicals

open access: yesInternational Journal of Chemical Kinetics, Volume 58, Issue 7, Page 396-406, July 2026.
ABSTRACT The atmospheric chemistry of 1,4‐difluorobutane (CFH2CH2CH2CFH2) was investigated through a kinetic and mechanistic study of the reaction with chlorine (Cl) atoms and hydroxyl (OH) radicals. Using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and relative rate methods, the rate constants (k) for the reactions were determined at 298 ± 2 K as k(
