The Effect of a Gear Oil on Abrasion, Scuffing, and Pitting of the DLC-Coated 18CrNiMo7-6 Steel [PDF]
The transmissions of mining conveyors are exposed to very harsh conditions. These are primarily related to the contamination of the gear oil with hard particles coming from coal and lignite, which can cause intensive abrasive wear, scuffing, and even pitting, limiting the life of gears.

Abrasive Wear, Scuffing and Rolling Contact Fatigue of DLC-Coated 18CrNiMo7-6 Steel Lubricated by a Pure and Contaminated Gear Oil. [PDF]
Due to extreme working conditions of mining conveyors, which contaminate gear oil with solid particles, their transmissions are exposed to intensive abrasion, scuffing, and even rolling contact fatigue (pitting). These effects shorten gear life.

Influence of Sulfur Content on Inclusion and Fatigue Properties of 18CrNiMo7-6 Gear Steels [PDF]
In this paper, two kinds of 18CrNiMo7-6 gear steels with sulfur content of 0.002% (low sulfur content) and 0.022% (high sulfur content) were studied. Pseudo-carburizing samples were obtained by reference to gear heat treatment process, and the effects of

Influence of Microalloying on the Surface Layer of a Carbonitrided Steel 18CrNiMo7-6
To further enhance the performance of case hardening steels, the surface layer is thermochemically treated. By carbonitriding, a thermochemical process by which carbon as well as nitrogen are brought into the surface layer, the tooth flank load capacity of case hardening steel gears can be dramatically improved in comparison to those elicited by ...
