A large nucleolar U3 ribonucleoprotein required for 18S ribosomal RNA biogenesis [PDF]
Although the U3 small nucleolar RNA (snoRNA), a member of the box C/D class of snoRNAs, was identified with the spliceosomal small nuclear RNAs (snRNAs) over 30 years ago, its function and its associated protein components have remained more elusive. The U3 snoRNA is ubiquitous in eukaryotes and is required for nucleolar processing of pre-18S ribosomal

Cloning and sequencing of a human 18S ribosomal RNA gene.
DNA, 1985A clone containing an 18S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) gene has been isolated from a human genomic library constructed in lambda Charon 4A. This gene was sequenced and found to be 1868 bp long.

Requirement for intron-encoded U22 small nucleolar RNA in 18S ribosomal RNA maturation.
Science, 1994The nucleoli of vertebrate cells contain a number of small RNAs that are generated by the processing of intron fragments of protein-coding gene transcripts.

Probing the secondary structure of expansion segment ES6 in 18S ribosomal RNA.
Biochemistry, 2006Expansion segment ES6 in 18S ribosomal RNA is, unlike many other expansion segments, present in all eukaryotes. The available data suggest that ES6 is located on the surface of the small ribosomal subunit. Here we have analyzed the secondary structure of

Nucleotide sequence of a mosquito 18S ribosomal RNA gene
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Gene Structure and Expression, 1991We have sequenced an 18S ribosomal RNA gene from the mosquito, Aedes albopictus. Computer alignment of the 1950 nucleotide coding region (56% A + T) with 18S rRNA sequences from two insect and three vertebrate species revealed greater sequence divergence among the insects than among the vertebrates.

Analysis of the 18S ribosomal RNA gene of Strongyloides stercoralis
International Journal for Parasitology, 1993The entire 1766 bases of the 18S rRNA gene of Strongyloides stercoralis have been sequenced. The gene has a 38% G+C content. Although it is similar in length to the 18S rRNA gene of Caenorhabditis elegans, the only other completely sequenced nematode 18S rRNA gene, it is only 69% identical.

Messenger RNA intron in the nuclear 18s ribosomal RNA gene of deuteromycetes
Current Genetics, 1993Introns within messenger RNA genes have characteristic border sequences and a conserved region near the 3' end of the intron. All are involved in splicing to produce the mature mRNA. Introns in ribosomal RNA genes have less well-defined borders and contain no internal conservation.

18 S Ribosomal RNA Is Degraded during Ribosome Maturation in Irradiated HeLa Cells
Radiation Research, 1989The effects of ionizing radiation (137Cs) on processing of ribosomal RNA (rRNA) were studied by pulse-labeling HeLa S3 cells with [3H]uridine immediately prior to irradiation. The 45 S rRNA precursor, and its two major daughter species, 28 and 18 S rRNA, were separated by gel electrophoresis and the extent of radiolabel incorporation into each was ...

Studies on the role of 23 s nucleolar RNA as an intermediate in the synthesis of 18 s ribosomal RNA
Journal of Molecular Biology, 1971Abstract From whole nucleolar RNA of Novikoff hepatoma cells, a single symmetrical peak of 23 s RNA was obtained by repeated sucrose density-gradient centrifugations. Hybridization experiments showed that nucleolar 23 s RNA is composed of 18 s ribosomal RNA and other RNA segments.
