Advances in Enzyme Regulation, 1985
This review, as its title indicates, views acivicin at a particular point in the ongoing process of its development. There is a large body of biochemical information which permits the formulation of a number of hypotheses regarding the drug's optimal regimen, mechanism of CNS toxicity, and potential role in combination chemotherapy.

The magnitude of the smoking problem is overwhelming. The annual mortality and expense are staggering. The task of changing this apocalyptic problem seems impossible. The solution, however, is not remote: It begins with each physician and with each individual patient who smokes.

The present status of catabolite repression is summarized with respect to the involvement of cyclic AMP and other mediators. A model is presented which may account for the relationship between positive control of gene expression exerted by cAMP and its receptor, CAP, and negative control of catabolite repression mediated by specific metabolites.
