Reconceptualizing Crisis: An Empirically Based Investigation

open access: yesSociological Inquiry, EarlyView.
Crisis is predominantly characterized in terms of its detrimental consequences. Drawing on in‐depth semi‐structured interviews in Melbourne and Taipei, the article provides a critical and distinctive understanding of crisis. Crisis is conceptualized here as a disruptive prefiguring of new possibilities, both agentic and structural.

Stewardship of Molecular Diagnostics in Transplant Viral Infections

open access: yesTransplant Infectious Disease, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The transplant environment requires special considerations when testing for viral infections as immunosuppression results in atypical infection profiles. Microbes otherwise considered commensals or causing mild disease can lead to severe infections in transplant environments. Therefore, guidelines tend to recommend broader microbial testing in

Persistence of fatigue in the absence of pathophysiological mechanisms in some patients more than 2 years after the original SARS‐CoV‐2 infection

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Following an acute infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2), a substantial percentage of patients report the persistence of debilitating symptoms, often grouped in a syndrome termed ‘long COVID’. We sought to identify potential pathophysiological mechanisms responsible for the persistence, in some long COVID ...

Risk Governance in Clinical Education for Healthcare Students: A Scoping Review

open access: yesThe Clinical Teacher, Volume 23, Issue 2, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Clinical education is essential for the training and accreditation of healthcare students. It facilitates hands‐on application and prepares students for their future roles in a dynamic and complex workforce. However, such clinical exposure comes with inherent risk, not least due to the delicate balance between patient safety and ...

Benefit Mediates the Gratitude‐Morality Link and Political Ideology Moderates the Effect

open access: yesJournal of Community &Applied Social Psychology, Volume 36, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
ABSTRACT We investigate the effects on the public of government and companies acting responsibly to a threat of an emerging pandemic by use of an adaptation of the theory of dyadic morality. The effects of positive actions by government and companies are mediated by gratitude, a positive moral emotion, en route to its impact on felt benefits.

Changes in emotional granularity under a population‐level stressor predict social anxiety and depressive symptoms

open access: yesJournal of Research on Adolescence, Volume 36, Issue 1, March 2026.
Abstract Emotional granularity, reflecting the specificity with which individuals distinguish their emotional experiences, is crucial to emotional well‐being. This study examined whether emotional granularity predicts adolescents' social anxiety and depressive symptoms during the COVID‐19 pandemic.

How Has the COVID‐19 Pandemic Affected the Influenza Seasonality Patterns in Different Climate Regions?—A Time‐Series Analysis

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 9, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Due to the burden of influenza, significant efforts have been made to understand its geographical and temporal patterns to advise influenza prevention. Influenza temporal patterns have been affected since the emergence of COVID‐19, presumably attributed to nonpharmacological interventions (NPIs).

The Redox Properties of Polyphenols and Their Role in ROS Generation for Biomedical Applications

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 3, 16 January 2026.
The dual redox nature of polyphenols enables antioxidant activity and controlled reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation. This review details the biomedical applications of polyphenols in materials such as nanoparticles, coatings, and hydrogels for antimicrobial, tissue regeneration, and cancer therapies.

Comparing Cross‐Sectional and Longitudinal Study Designs for Accurate Viral Dynamics Estimation: Insights From the NBA Cohort Data

open access: yesJournal of Medical Virology, Volume 98, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Viral load data provide critical insights into host‐pathogen interactions and guide clinical and public health decisions. Because frequent testing is often infeasible, viral dynamics models are used to reconstruct infection trajectories, but optimal sampling strategies remain unclear.
