Investigating the cell of origin and novel molecular targets in Merkel cell carcinoma: a historic misnomer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study indicates that Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) does not originate from Merkel cells, and identifies gene, protein & cellular expression of immune‐linked and neuroendocrine markers in primary and metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) tumor samples, linked to Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) status, with enrichment of B‐cell and other immune cell

Factors associated with HIV-positive status among men who have sex with men in Guinea in 2022

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health
Introduction/Context Men who have sex with men (MSM) continue to carry a disproportionate burden of HIV in West and Central Africa, where stigma, criminalization, and legal restrictions hinder access to essential prevention and treatment services.

Nonsingular, big-bounce cosmology from spinor-torsion coupling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The Einstein-Cartan-Sciama-Kibble theory of gravity removes the constraint of general relativity that the affine connection be symmetric by regarding its antisymmetric part, the torsion tensor, as a dynamical variable.

Integrated genomic and proteomic profiling reveals insights into chemoradiation resistance in cervical cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A comprehensive genomic and proteomic analysis of cervical cancer revealed STK11 and STX3 as a potential biomarkers of chemoradiation resistance. Our study demonstrated EGFR as a therapeutic target, paving the way for precision strategies to overcome treatment failure and the DNA repair pathway as a critical mechanism of resistance.

The Adiabatic Theorem for Quantum Systems with Spectral Degeneracy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
By stating the adiabatic theorem of quantum mechanics in a clear and rigorous way, we establish a necessary condition and a sufficient condition for its validity, where the latter is obtained employing our recently developed adiabatic perturbation theory.

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Screening for lung cancer: A systematic review of overdiagnosis and its implications

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Low‐dose computed tomography (CT) screening for lung cancer may increase overdiagnosis compared to no screening, though the risk is likely low versus chest X‐ray. Our review of 8 trials (84 660 participants) shows added costs. Further research with strict adherence to modern nodule management strategies may help determine the extent to which ...
