Popular and/or Prestigious? Measures of Scholarly Esteem [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Citation analysis does not generally take the quality of citations into account: all citations are weighted equally irrespective of source. However, a scholar may be highly cited but not highly regarded: popularity and prestige are not identical measures

Dual targeting of RET and SRC synergizes in RET fusion‐positive cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Despite the strong activity of selective RET tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), resistance of RET fusion‐positive (RET+) lung cancer and thyroid cancer frequently occurs and is mainly driven by RET‐independent bypass mechanisms. Son et al. show that SRC TKIs significantly inhibit PAK and AKT survival signaling and enhance the efficacy of RET TKIs in ...

When to Sell or Hold a Stock:Empirical Evidence from an Emerging Market [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Data from an emerging market were used to determine when to sell or hold a stock for a single model of a stock whose price is assumed to be a geometric Brownian motion in which the jump Markov process changes back and forth between positive and negative ...

Neutrinos with Lorentz-violating operators of arbitrary dimension [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The behavior of fermions in the presence of Lorentz and CPT violation is studied. Allowing for operators of any mass dimension, we classify all Lorentz-violating terms in the quadratic Lagrange density for free fermions.

Cis‐regulatory and long noncoding RNA alterations in breast cancer – current insights, biomarker utility, and the critical need for functional validation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The noncoding region of the genome plays a key role in regulating gene expression, and mutations within these regions are capable of altering it. Researchers have identified multiple functional noncoding mutations associated with increased cancer risk in the genome of breast cancer patients.

Valley-kink in Bilayer Graphene at $\nu=0$: A Charge Density Signature for Quantum Hall Ferromagnetism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We investigate interaction-induced valley domain walls in bilayer graphene in the $\nu=0$ quantum Hall state, subject to a perpendicular electric field that is antisymmetric across a line in the sample.

Strength through diversity: how cancers thrive when clones cooperate

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Intratumor heterogeneity can offer direct benefits to the tumor through cooperation between different clones. In this review, Kuiken et al. discuss existing evidence for clonal cooperativity to identify overarching principles, and highlight how novel technological developments could address remaining open questions.
